firefox
check if ur vid drivers are proper.. inxi -G in terminal, @feral nest
I have not gotten both my os drives installed at once yet, currently finishing setting up my Linux mint hard drive first
Hey stun while I have you here
Isn't there an Nvidia app for the drivers in software manager for Nvidia gpus?
I can't find the one I saw on a vid a while ago
Can't remember the vid I watched tho
it should already show up in tray called "prime" applet
nvidia-prime should already show as installed in the software manager
I see on software manager, could not see it searching on the system, how do I open it
Oh I don't have the nvida-prime tool on software manager but I have the prime applet
read about it n figure it out
maybe prime applet should show in APPLETS manage tab. just need to add it to taskbar
It doesn't show when I go to add applet I search Nvidia and nothing shows up
yeah idk these weird things. for some ppl it just shows in tray, for the rare case, not
Watching a vid
check if ur nvdia drivers applied fr.. inxi -Gx
Do I need to sudo that
nope
Idk much about terminal
inxi --help if u wish
Nouveau?
fresh install always goes FOSS nouveau
That seems wrong right
mokutil --sb-state
I'm driver manager I see Nvidia drivers
It's just in driver manager
I'm blind I guess
do above thing first
Is this gonna fix my screen flashing black if I put my refresh rate to my monitors max
Cause that happened
Max 75hz btw I'm at 60hz rn
possibly yes. quite likely
Nice
if two monitors make damn sure they're on matching refresh rates in display settings
Only 1
k
Eventually 2 though but it's an older monitor I need a display port cord for it
btw if reco'd driver doesnt perform well on the GTX 1060, go with the older 470
Okay
Seems fine I can indeed use 75hz now
u should have ur applet now
Uhh, went to get steam and it says I need a 32 bit version of the Nvidia driver
So I guess I do gotta use the older version
Great
no
just prob needs that i386 thing for nvidia driver
So I search i386
hell no
Idk
u gotta be more specific than that
...
It says v: 570.133.07
search manager for nvidia driver 570 i386
install synaptic then. close that first mgr.
yup
Sidenote I hate needing my password for like everything
it's just to set up
u dont gotta set stuff up every minute of every day
close the terminal
or reboot
I'll do a restart rq then
wait
...
make sure nothing is being run in tray
Too late for that
like a critical system update or something
I don't think so
I already did those
God this hard drive is old
I'm back in and trying to install
just make sure u close one manager before running any other
that includes apt commands in terminal.
New error: E: dpkg was interrupted you must manually run 'dpkg--configure-a' to correct the problem
well install synaptic then
Okay I launched it, I don't really know what I'm looking at
Do I click on search in the top right ish and search for it there?
hit reload first
Okay
then search for what i said.. just by name, not include description
then sift thru the results and ye shall find
So in the look in sort by name only?
ya
I see in the small left box labeled all is one option with the result of the name
look results not there
ok let'put in bit more specific a search
nvidia-driver
then scroll the stuff. u should find a 570 with 386
or whatever ur thing version is now
scrolled full each way?
Yes
search just nvidia i386
well it wont need a dash
unless u mean literal
search same term by name and description
The Nvidia i386 term?
ua
yupppp
Hmmmm
it also mentions version in the "INSTALLED" column
and there's an icon legend in Help
Ahhh I see
I only have the steam installer rn so I'll try that
if still wont go, then install the flatpak steam from flathub.org. that's ur plan b.
Ah
and u may remove steam from synaptic later. (synaptic ONLY handles management of native system apps)
it's quite easy, u just click a green package in synaptic, in the green tickbox, and 'mark for complete removal' and it'll maybe add some dep's n then click apply n read it over so u learn
the little steam installer thing in software manager is just a mini program to install massive Steam
Yeah
Also do I need to remove steam from synaptic like right away or can that wait a while
to LAUNCH and BROWSE GAMES
Eesh yeah
wait a good while, no rush
like dont remove it obv if the native one works.
only if u had to resort to flatpak, then ya
Oh nah
Steam with the I assume just a Debian file right either way non flat pack is working fine I think
btw, if u have synaptic open still ?
I dont
k nvm
so try using steam.
idk wtf that 32 bit warning was about
u have the shtuff
Also have you person done curseforge modded mc on mint
oh hell no
I think it's a thing with my over a decade old hdd
i dont even play games
Oh
no it is not a thing wiht ur old hdd
it's cuz some games on steam may have been written for 32-bit execution, and thus need proper libraries to run the graphics card as such
Ohhhh
I also want to make a time shift at some point but I saw someone had to do like a lot of setup for it to let him make a time shift save
Any chance I'll come across that?
nah just.. pick ur drive n done
Ok
the root partition
OR
if u prefer, and have a huge external storage drive or get one, u can format all or some of it to ext4. and direct timeshift prefs to save onto it
Yeah the issue I saw the guy had was he was saving the time shift on the same drive as Linux mint
can even be a massive usb stick
(slow, but maybe not so slow if ports and stick are usb 3.2
someone did it on a damn boot partition 💀 💀
OHHHHH
that's what I saw I see
btw, definitely definitely watch this: https://youtu.be/qxnM0rvVbDc?t=304 (5:04) how to use Synaptic, thorough and simple.
I hit the thing that said this needs your attention it opened system reports and it wanted me to set up time shift which I was about to do and so I launched TS and tried to close the system reports and now it froze
well there's a lot going on
just do timeshift when nothing's going on. and watch taht vid
k bye
Wait
?
On select location in time shift I got the main disc and then the drop-down says sda2 so I just select the disc?
Legit my last question I hope
Wdym
sda2 will probably say mounted at filesystem root
well click the proper pt'n first
Oh
u have no other choice. only dvd drive on left so
unless u go out n buy a 250 Gig usb stick and make it ext4, then this will have to suffice
So select sda2 then as that's the root drive not the boot partition
other guy had encryption, hence a boot partition
not to be confused with EFI partition
Okay I'm creating a snapshot rn before I load in my windows SSD for my full duel boot setup
Ah
make sure win fast startup is definitely off
u can check by powercfg /a in windows cmd prompt
What would it do? Also don't I need to do a thing in linux regarding dual boot
Not plugged in yet
oh aight
Got that set up first
well still.
n if u install windows onto it, make damn sure to pull the linux drive out
temporarily
Windows is already on it
I installed Linux after
It is taking forever for this timeshift
Just on syncing files with rsync
Not progress bar movement yet
Love this hard drive lmao
n explore this well. helps u learn
Okay
do
Does that mean fast startup is enabled idk how to turn it off
powercfg /h off and no worries
Tytyty
then recheck with powercfg /a
Appears so I no longer see anything saying fast startup when I rechecked
Just shows the following sleep states stuff
so no mention of it/
yeah, im scared to fully have both drives plugged in i think i have everything set up but idk if theres anything i should do on the linux side of things before having both drives plugged int, i just have my windows ssd plugged in rn with the linux hdd unplugged in case something goes wrong
i figured it out i didint put enough storage drrives
ahh
didnt mean to turn your help thing into mine as well btw mb
i watched a setup video from like a year ago and i followed the video but now the files are larger
so thats why
i see
☑️
you may have both drives plugged in. simply use the BOOT MENU KEY at power on to select your second-favourite OS.
also
your favourite OS will be at the top already in the BIOS settings of priority
i can have secuyre boot on right
idk why but the tutorials i watched said turn it off then never said to turn it back on
and i need it on for windows games
shit
to set it up with secure boot on, u need to maybe do it from scratch as such.
see from here or few seconds before. https://youtu.be/CuonyS3xdwg?t=303
and then the Mint installer will have u create a secure boot password. u must REMEMBER / record that pw. on reboot the pc to the install u will need to enroll it in blue mok manager
watch vid. that's for ventoy, but the blue screen is that, regardless
idk what ventoy is
is that a distro?
ohh
cant i use rufus
also i already have linux mint installer still on my usb drive
if rufus indeed boots to mint live after Secure Boot in BIOS is turned on , then sure.
( 💀 )
what about if i set up the windows with it off i cant remember if i did that....
would i have to reinstall windows
no cuz if ur games need it on etc
simply follow the thiojoe thing in vid above. use gpt instead of mbr in the ventoy option menu before hitting install, then yeah . simple choose erase n install linux (after taking windows drive out ofc)
Also read the forum post above. re: the Mok thing u will need to do post-install of Mint on first reboot
okay so use ventoy, and when writing linux to the usb set it to gpt, i dont need to reinstall windows, and after installing mint after first reboot do the mok thing
Correct? Also my wifis dying
yikes
Fucking auto correct
lmao!!
The wifi router is like turning off and on a lot
