Not sure how to explain, but when I open either steam, or the kitty terminal, they "take a screenshot" of the area they would have covered, and that is all they show. But this only happens on my external display... not on my laptop's display. When I launch the item on the external and drag it over to the laptop's, then it's still broken. But vice-verca work's fine.
I am on XFCE mint.
It only happens if I set my external display as my main monitor, and I would like to do that.

Can verify that the resolution of the monitor is set properly? There will be a Display option in the menu in which you can check or set this.

fixed it by doing this: (sad laptop noises)
sudo apt install nvidia-prime
sudo prime-select nvidia
I was able to take a screenshot for once
