#Does MSI afterburner work on Nvidia gpus on Linux mint?

Msi Afterburner doesn't have a linux version. For fan control, try GreenWithEnvy or CoreCtrl
If you want to overclock, you first need to enable the coolbits
I don't wanna overclock, just control the speed of my GPU fan which is Nvidia ik that can have problems on linux
Is that for all fans or the GPU fan cause I havnt found a way to adjust my other fans on windows
Unless afterburners fan curve is for all fans but I thought it was just for gpu
You will need to set the coolbits to 4 in that case
nvidia-config --cool-bits=X
1 (bit 0) - Enables overclocking of older (pre-Fermi) cores on the Clock Frequencies page in nvidia-settings.
2 (bit 1) - When this bit is set, the driver will "attempt to initialize SLI when using GPUs with different amounts of video memory".
4 (bit 2) - Enables manual configuration of GPU fan speed on the Thermal Monitor page in nvidia-settings.
8 (bit 3) - Enables overclocking on the PowerMizer page in nvidia-settings. Available since version 337.12 for the Fermi architecture and newer.
16 (bit 4) - Enables overvoltage using nvidia-settings CLI options. Available since version 346.16 for the Fermi architecture and newer.
You can also add values together.
Enabling OC and OverVoltage is 24 as 8+16
But since you want custom fan control just replace X with 4
I never did any custom fan stuff when I had a GTX1080
as it was water cooled
So I do that in a terminal command?
Also my measly GTX1060 has just 1 fan and it gets hot sometimes,.my theory is the thermal paste inside the graphics card is like non-existent because of how long it's existed
yes, enter nvidia-config --cool-bits=4 as a command
you might need sudo perms
Refereance design cards are not the best when it comes to cooling for the older gen cards
Mine was an MSI GTX1080 Gaming X and has 2 fans.
Cant comment on how it performs or its noise.
Idgaf how loud my fans get I live in a loud area anyway
Also that's neat, I'm assuming before I do that I'll need to have the proper drivers for my GPU?
I might have broken my whole windows install so after i get it repaired, if I do, I can hopefully dual boot windows and Linux with Linux on a separate drive
