#How to allow discord to use that red circle thingy to show how many pings i got on the taskbar?
265 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
i see
there may be a solution to this in two ways
either, make the buttons wide with labels
How to
like this., so it will show a number in brackets there if u have unread messages
or, try a dock app called "dockbarX"
first let's get some info.
do inxi -S in terminal
Wait ill come on my laptop 1 sec
yeah then
state the results
screenshot the whole thing?
well what's the desktop and version
any paths show or just nothing
oh ok. that's good
that's native system package then
do u want to try the button thing, just to see?
yes
right click a blank area on panel. choose "applets"
done
then show screenshot of that window
scroll down another pageful there please
anything with checkmark means turned on. the + or - buttons will turn them on or off
show next ss
then show it
here
do u want to group or have separate buttons show for every app?
for every open app
if the latter, toggle off 'grouping'
what do u mean
like say u have three pictures open. they will be in three separate image viewers. do u want to see the current way, where it's all under one picture-viewer icon, and u have to hover on it to see more, OR do u want to see 3 viewer buttons (one for each open instance)
the last way is the classic Windows XP way
open three photos , and u'll see
on windows 10 discord icon was in my taskbar and whenever there was a message unread there was a red circle on the discord icon
if a ping then +1 to +9
what did u put button label setting to rn?
i tried all of em
what were the choices?
none, application name, window title, window title (only for focused window)
just put window title maybe
and then close the settings app
*applet config window
then minimize discord, and i'll sent u texts
testing
first
second.
third.
fourth.
nope
minimize again, and i'll send an acutal ping
still nothing
yea
kk
still nothing
were ur notifications at least popping up?
nope
nope
lmao idk why
ok i have dockbarX , but only Chrome for discord. send me three separate messages. 2 with no @ and 1 with it. do it now.
yeah i need that but not for browser
i did "hear" the last one though
you can try dockbarX. if no good, just uninstall it
check in software manager. but click the 3 line menu in it first n "refresh package list"
i just turned this on but still nothing
kk
theres no thing as dockbarX
@muted perchmaybe its the taskbar size
do you know how to make it bigger
i dont think it's that at all tbh.
but u can go to "Panel" in start menu: preferences (or just type-search)
and raise the pixel height.
its still not there lol
yeah i guess the native linux panel's "window list" buttons dont show it
there's a chance dockbarX might
it's like a app dock that sits within the panel
imma install
first see if it's even found
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xuzhen666/dockbarx
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install dockbarx
this?
it didnt appear there
see if it's natively found after refresh list
still wasnt there
i downloaded it from terminal idek where is it now
show the terminal result if window is still open
did it do "processing triggers" ?
yup
logout (just do ctrl-alt-backspace)
then once logged back in, type-search "dockbar" in start menu
i see
ignore the pic i sent accidently it was when openning discord
ah i see it
click on "namebar Window buttons" then then the "add to left side" arrow, @lyric marsh
also see if it appears in Mint's "applets" list now
or if it's even IN your panel (the dockbar thing)
@lyric marsh
Yes, DockbarX can be used in Cinnamon desktop. You can install it as a standalone dock or as a panel applet.
To use DockbarX as a standalone dock, you can install it via package managers or AUR (Archlinux User Repository) and then start it using the command dockx.
To use it as a panel applet, you can install the xfce4-dockbarx-plugin package (for example, using sudo apt-get install xfce4-dockbarx-plugin) and then add the applet to your Cinnamon panel.
Steps to get DockbarX working in Cinnamon:
- Installation:
Install DockbarX using your system's package manager or through AUR (for Archlinux users).- Standalone Dock:
If you want to use it as a standalone dock, run the command dockx.- Panel Applet:
If you want to add it as a panel applet, install xfce4-dockbarx-plugin and add the applet to your Cinnamon panel, according to the GitHub documentation.- Preferences:
Access DockbarX preferences through the application menu or by right-clicking the dock and choosing "Preferences".- Note about Cinnamon:
A review on OMG! Ubuntu mentions that if Cinnamon uses a bottom panel, DockbarX (or Plank Reloaded, a similar option) might be hidden behind it, so adjusting the desktop layout might be necessary.
(Google AI)
now what
edit "panel" settings, and just set it to top instead of bottom, JUST TO TEST
huh
do u SEE dockbarX at all? idk if u started it. or if u added it into the panel even
top what
u just showed the preferences box
top of screen
bro idk how to do anything lol i just moved that thing to left
so it is showing?
.
nop
edit what
aaai dont see location

show a ss
click on "panel edit mode"
yeah now what
i think u can drag panel to another edge, once it's reddish
or some other obvious thing in the prefs
so what do i do
did u move it?
yeah i have no idea
idk how to move
....
im on a laptop
not for me my keyboard is like 65% or smth
ok, so i see the little green zone in the middle. that means panel is indeed in edit mode.
simply drag it to very top of screen
nothing happens lol
Prtscrn is probably found on another top row key, requiring "Fn" button to trigger it
ok once moment i'll brb
right clck panel, and untoggle edit-mode
then:
To move the Cinnamon panel to the top of the screen, right-click on the panel, select "Move", and then choose the "Top" position
"dock" ?
dockX
i already tested it earlier it just made my discord and browser go to the left side of screen
both taskbar and left side
um.. u see the clock in panel.. to the right of it is a thickish vertical bar... hit that, then show full screenshot
uh but the clock is the last thing
beside it.. the extreme right. thickish grey bar
yeah exactly. now show full pic with the DockX thing run
lol
ok just minimize discord a sec.. i'll tag u a few times ok.
one
two
@lyric marsh three
@lyric marsh four
five six seven
nothing
does it show badges on dockbar discord icon?
nope
hmm maybe some thing deeper in the prefs for dockbar
if still cant find, then uninstall it, and remove the PPA (use the "software sources" tool from start menu to do so, to manage PPA's) and then try Plank reloaded.
imma try to find it if i cant imma js leave it as it is im fine with that bbut im used to it having a badge
also bro how to stop this dockx thingy
see here.. "window buttons" . highlight it, then click the little switchbox icon (prefs for it)
anything in that may mention about what u need?
if u need to shut the dock thing off if u can't get it to work, then open "system monitor" from start menu. click it's "Processes" tab.. sort by name by clicking the name header. find the dockx thing. right click it and choose either "terminate" or if that doesnt work, choose "kill"
- if that doesnt work, open terminal, type
xkilland then click the death-cursor on the dockbar thing
yeah i foundt out before u said
nope
ill just stick to it
i just realized that DockX is another thing (separate dock)... What u need to do is check "applets" in the cinnamon panel, find the dockbarX applet, and activate it. (+ button)
make another post in the appropriate channel. remember, small questions receive small answers.. bigger issues deserve a suppor thread
@lyric marsh copy?
its whatever now i fixed it
oh ok
found this
see if yours has the third tickbox for badges
all of this is turned on
oh k
I'm playing around with the themes in the first tab, very top. hitting refesh. i haven't changed it from "Human Bar" since so long
found this in first tab. mine was never ticked but i dont ever use the feature.
lmao
could probably set it to red. for text. or white text, red background
that's how "human bar" looks. (only the stuff left to the wide buttons with text in them is actual dockbarX)
yeah it's not Mint anyway. ChaletOS was prestyled with many looks all similar to Windows 7 but varied by colour
