#Audio over HDMI not working

Hi, im a linux/mint noob.

i recently installed mint 22.1 on the GMKtec Nucbox G2.

It is not dual boot.

When we first fired it up the audio was working for like 10 mins.

I enabled DRM in firefox so they could watch prime video.

Not sure if it was a coincidence or not as i have tried playing a local MP3 file and still cant get audio.

I have tried to turn DRM playback off but it has no effect.

I have checked audio devices but cant make heads or tails of it

if on cinnamon, type sound in start menu

#

On first tab (Output) click the HDMI device. click "test" below. ensure slider bar isnt muted.

#

below the test button, there may be more than one "profile" dropdown for HDMI. try whichever is in it, if applicable.

HDMI is not even showing up

#

im trying a fresh reinstall of mint to see how that goes

stiff marten
#

well the title said HDMI

#

are you using optical cable now instead?

oh i think i understand

#

so it USED to say hdmi as a pickable item in SOUND, but now no?

then i looked at devices and noticed the only available one was the SPDIF/Digital

stiff marten

hdmi (as an audio sink) is often tied to the video card, and video drivers. that's why check the inxi i said thoroughly,

#

make sure secure boot is OFF if it is an nvidia video card, and that it shows some driver listed in the graphics section of inxi

#

and that it is present in the audio section of same command

restive onyx
#

i'll have a alook. but its a Nucbox with intel integrated graphics, does that matter?

stiff marten
#

it's dandy. linux covers such

stiff marten
#

proper lettercase use, ofc

restive onyx
#

Sorry. I tried and it said command not found

#

Worled it out. Needed a space it seems

share result

#

open 'update manager', go to its View menu.

#

select, 'kernels'

#

and pick a 6.11 kernel , set to install, and reboot once done.

#

then repeat the inxi thing to check stuff
