#Not able to get games up and running Mint 22.1

I just recently moved over from Windows 11 Pro to Linux Mint 22.1 and I haven't been able to get games to launch from steam. I started with The FINALS since it's supposed to have native Linux support. Upon install I have installed bottles and wine as well onto my system and was hoping that would make gaming easier to get into. Not sure what to do.

System Specs:
AMD Ryzen 3700x
NVIDIA RTX 3080 12gb
Drivers: NVIDIA 535 ubuntu drivers

You should look into Proton. This is the translation layer created by Valve for steamdeck that has been adapted to work on desktop linux. I've had great success getting my games to work.

I mean i've got proton enabled in steam. Is it something that needs to be installed into the system to work for games?

In your library, when you are on a game page, click the gear icon and select "Properties"

#

Then from there, select "Compatibility" and choose which version of proton you'd like to try. Generally, but not always, latest stable is best.

#

If that doesn't get you there, you could take a look at this video. This is how I learned to set this all up, but this is a totally end to end, all teh bells and whistles setup, you only need some of this to get it working. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8M3Y90hHWg&t=687s

Setting up my AMD MS-A1 Mini PC as my new workbench Linux PC with Linux Mint along with Gamescope, FSR, Steam, Heroic Game Launcher, Lutris, and more! thank for the view!

Okay, I watched through that video and followed his instructions but I had originally installed steam through the software manager, so after installing it, reinstalled it through the terminal with flatpak. NOW, I can't get steam to read all my hard drives. Not sure if flatpak made it where steam doesn't read all drives on the system but that's the major difference from what was working before and what's not working now.

@mystic lotus the originally installed the deb file the first time, but reinstalled it through flatpak in order to install proton-ge pretty much like that video above says

#

you can install proton-ge's through protonup-qt its in the software manager

I'll try that when im home. That'll work with a deb file install through software manager

it looks like this

#

and it automatically adds it to the .deb steam. im not sure about the flatpak version

#

protontricks is also in software manager but i only ever used it for assetto corsa to toggle 'dwrite'
and iirc it warns you to copy paste a command so it can access games

so it seems that his problem was due to flatpak being a pain
