so im trying to install linux mint on a laptop, i tried dualbooting it with windows, it was fine until i had to turn off windows bitlocker. i did that and decrypted all my files and now it wont even let me boot into the usb at all. it keeps saying "Failed to open \EFI\BOOT \mmx64.eft - Not Found Failed to load image: Not Found Failed to start MokManager: Not Found Something has gone seriously wrong: import_mok_state failed: Not Found". ive tried everything. reformatting the drive, booting into legacy mode, changing other settings, nothing worked. i am literally starting to give up all hope.

this is a common issue. happens to MANY stupid UEFI-run computers
the workaround is to use a flasher named ventoy. It gets right past that mess.

Solution 1, and guide link for setting up ventoy found there.
also since this is dual boot, make sure to disable Windows Fast Startup too before anything. also Secure boot off, Fast Boot in Bios off too, and Bitlocker off (if Windows disk management shows bitlocker anywhere on main drives)
<< Link to Turning off Fast Startup, and the dual-boot reference videos.
thing is with my issue it actually booted into linux until i tried dualbooting and it told me to turn off bitlocker
which i did, now it wont let me boot in at all and i get that error message
also make sure to boot the usb up as uefi device if Windows itself is uefi-run&booted for dual-compatibility
check Win. System Information on BIOS mode line
@reef light it worked. tysm, i was literally about to give up all hope
😋
in case i ever need linux tech support in the future, you're my guy
im not exactly a first time linux user, i did use mint and arch on virtual machines in the past but this is my first time installing it on actual hardware
yeah. make sure the other things I mentioned are done for a simple and easy install.
gotcha
first 6 minutes of that EC vid shows single-drive dualboot demonstration/setup
@reef light
its an ssd
or faulty flash cells
u ventoy'd an ssd to install onto another drive?
if you wanna call it that then yea
i used my main pc to get the iso onto ventoy and plugged it into my laptop
see if got too hot
it doesnt feel hot
u using sata to usb adapter?
im using a usb stick
a true usb thumb drive is your ventoy'd device?
yes
its the only usb drive i have
try using black usb port
alternately, rename the iso on ventoy "old.trash" and add fresh iso
so it writes to new cells
the iso ate itself so now i have to recopy it
reboot to windows, simply rename the old distro.iso file
to like distro.old
and then copy new iso again
u dont have to download a fresh one (probably)
.
isnt that the old ISO ur showing me in the screenshot?
nah new one
and compare the calculated hash to the one stated in the integrity section of Downloads area of mint website
if they match, proceed
@reef light decided to ditch the dualbooting thing altogether and install linux mint on the entire drive
if i wanna dualboot it seems like my best bet is just to use two separate SSDs
all the power to you. Hope the transition goes smoothly. Software manager is your first stop to browse
So you installed successfully then?
sure did boss
