#linux mint keeps opening software on my other display and not the one I set as primary

under settings -> windows -> behavior do you have bring windows which require attention to the current workspace or location of newly opened windows set to cursor for example?
thank you just turned this on
I also have another question about epic games
what is it?
LogSelfUpdateService: Error: InstalledManifestWithDataFuture was not valid in HandleLauncherManifestLoaded.
LogInit: Warning: LaunchNonElevatedProcess: No desktop shell is present.
LaunchNonElevatedProcess: No desktop shell is present.

this is the error I get in lutrius
it doesn't start at all I think it has something to do with the file path
but I can't figure out what
I'm presuming this is windows software
yeah
I'm using lutrius and wine
are you using wine, lutris, proton etc
this is the logs from lutrius
no desktop shell seems to be the source error lets see what a bit of lookup on that looks like
tried this? https://heroicgameslauncher.com/
An Open Source Epic, GOG and Amazon Prime Games Launcher
I've not tried it myself
hmm
Think it uses proton under the hood which is basically just wine
should I try proton on lutrius maybe?
I googled it and it said it's a problem with accessing the directory
but I can't figure out why
doesn't appear to be what the error says
want the full log?
sure
yep I see that now
how did you install lutris?
if via flatpak its important that its permissions allow you to access the location
looks like it has pretty expansive access so less likely to be an issue but worth checking
I used software manager
software manager has system packages and flatpaks
Did you manually install epic games launcher in linux or do you have an existing windows install you are trying to use for both?
and what path is it located at
i installed in linux
and on my hdd
to somewhere in /home/yourname ?
/media/dex/HDD1
are we sure that that is mounted as you with write permission?
that unfortunately doesn't show any info about permissions
in your file manager you can right click on it and select properties
it will tell you which user and group it is owned by and who has what permissions
is that screeny from the disks app or the file manager
and such or what
file manager
why is it set to none?
no clue man
It was just set up that way
I had to manually mount it and such because it wasn't even showing up because of my sata settings
oh nm I misread the tiny screenshot and didn't expand it
first is permission for YOU next for your group which is again just you basically then others
ok so its weird that it doesn't have the same permission for your user and group
so how should I set this up
what should I change it too
it actually shouldn't hurt anything your user has privileges
ok
and lutris flatpak has permission to access media
so it really shouldn't be a problem
you can try the system package version just in case
just remove any flatpak version and add that if you want to test
otherwise heroic launcher is also an option
alright
trying this one in hopes it works
@regal hornet
did you remove the other version of lutris if any?
yeah
ill remove wine too
no need
okay
that actually seemed to say you don't actually have wine
eg which wine in a terminal should return something like /usr/bin/wine
yeah
why is my wine not working
wait
maybe it's working for once?
honestly I just use steam exclusively
seems like heroic might be easier than making lutris + epic work
do you happen to use wallpaper engine?
no
I use feh to write images to the root window and wrote my own wrapper script to show pick search and download wallpapers
wow
I understand pretty much none of those words
cool
cursor
it's still not fixed
does it not put windows where the cursor is?
notably for certain long starting things it may actually put it where the cursor WAS when you started it
nope
please describe in detail your setting and what is happening and what should be happening
so the monitor that is set to primary doesn't have programs launching on it
and my second monitor for some reason
is it the case that the secondary monitor that isn't primary has the cursor?
basically opening on the primary monitor isn't an available option for that
however keeping it aligned with present cursor is going to result in in mostly being primary if you are mostly on the primary monitor
