Hello,
I'm looking to get a laptop relatively cheap that I can install Mint to and play CDs and local files on, and pretty much nothing else. I already have the sound system, I just need a machine to hook it up to. I'd rather have this be a separate install than my main machine, while being able to use both simultaneously. All I ask is that recs be under 300 USD, and at least 128 gbs of hard drive space. Please ping me if you have ideas
With regards,

any used, old HP from around 2010-11 that has a CD drive and a Core 2 or i3 cpu should do fine.
not really asking too much here.
you could do this with Windows 98 on a Pentium 1 or 2 even.
something of that vintage you can put Mint xfce on it.
and if you have another Mint (or any Linux) pc, you can use Warpinator on both to send folders full of mp3's over to the laptop, over a home network easily.
I would also target a Core 2 Duo for this. 4GB of RAM should be comfortable for the task described, but you could even get away with 2GB. Any lower, and you would need to consider other distros than Mint. We are talking machines that are $60-90 on the used market, there is no need to go anywhere near $300.
