#Fresh Mint install troubles after live boot.
57 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I mean I guess it has one I'm booting from usb, it used to be a windows laptop but the decade old hdd died
open the DISKS app
from ur mint live environment, via start menu search
then show it
explain precisely what the toshiba is
This 1 tb 'maxone' ssd drive
Is apparently toshiba, windows recognizes it as the name Maxone idk where Toshiba comes from
Maybe get a drive to install in the computer?
omf ok
leave it open til fixed
fine I'll see what happens I might have a spare drive somehwre
Where do I even go from here, how do I ensure this drive receives the OS install I will be using as my home computer and not the drive im going to borrow to install it proper?
Or will i get to choose which drive once I have two plugged jn
If you borrow a USB drive it will likely be smaller than 1TB and during the install you can select to install the OS to the 1TB
so I gotta burn the iso to the non tb drive?
ur pc may get confused if u power it up with both drives connected AT FIRST
Or it can install onto itself as long as it has so are writable memory
or what eberidk imbad sorry
so just have the thumb drive connected
kk
boot the thumb drive
once I find one
then after it reaches the live desktop, (live desktop shows the installer shiny CD icon)...
then u plug the external toshiba one in. after a moment, it will show as a drive icon on desktop. Probably will have a name like "1 TB Volume". right-click that icon, and choose 'unmount'.
then u fire up the installer, and just choose 'erase disk and install Mint'
and u can watch the DISKS app, the changes that take place on the Toshiba, as the installer begins wiping and copying files over to it
- once Mint is installed, and you've tested that it boots properly on the Toshiba drive 100%, then you should reformat the "Etchered" usb drive from within your new Linux Mint OS, before giving it back to whomever.
its installing rnnn
this is because whoever u borrowed the usb from will be mad that their usb seems "broken" if u leave it etchered.
as it is a real pain to fix from Windows.
use the DISKS app in your final-installed Mint. click the PROPER etchered usb thumb drive, click stop icon, click the dots menu top right. format drive. make as msdos type.
then once done, click the plus (+) icon to make new filesystem on the now-fully-blanked usb thumbdrive. set it up as simply Fat32.
then you may return it.
i drove 20 miles to get a one for myself but thanks for ideas
k. well u'll be pissed if it stayed "etchered" n unusable for anything else
best flasher is ventoy anyway.
or rufus,
my expectations are already so low I dont know if I care anymore
What ever waiting on thing
did it work? installation complete?
