So, I got the antix linux ISO, and i flashed it using their own tool.
It threw an error 1 minute in the flashing process.
It didn't even give me any logs, just said "Error."

Now i replugged my USB and my computer can't detect it.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Launch their ISO flashing tool with sudo priveleges (it needs sudo)
  • Select the ISO and the USB
  • click the Flash button
  • Wait for it to fail.

Expected behaviour: To flash the ISO successfully with no errors.

Actual behaviour: Giving an error and causing the USB drive to become undetectable.

UPDATE: lsblk recognizes the USB, but no other GUI app does

That, or wipefs

#

I am assuming you have no data on this USB you care about.

yeah its a blank USB

So sdb is the device?

#

You probably want something like wipefs -a /dev/sdb

ye sdb is the USB

I am mildly concerned that their tool did not tell you an error though and left you in this weird state

craggy niche

Eh that tool looked pretty low quality

#

I would stick to dd

The exact words of the error message were: "An error has occured while flashing the ISO to the USB drive."

Thanks Windows

I'm just waiting for it to fill up the USB with zeroes

#

I know flashing an ISO to a USB creates new partitions

round forum
#

You shouldn't need to zero fill but sure

craggy niche
#

I like it more that way

#

From what I can tell the ISO flashing tool messed up in a way the partitions got unreadable

Well hello lot

#

Well, it creates an EFI partition, but my old laptop only supports legacy BIOS boot

Googly goo

Okay

Alright guys, its solved. I formatted all the partitions and used Ventoy instead. The USB is now detected and Antix ISO has been safely put on the Ventoy drive.
