I have a dell precision M4800 with a nvidia quadro K2100m gpu.
I don’t understand how to get it to work. I managed to get this far in the picture. But I don’t understand where to go from here.

This laptop has weird things with it to.
Windows 8,10, and 11 won’t install on it because the mouse keyboard stop working at the start.

At one point windows 10 was on it but not now.
Neither on Linux or windows will the internal WiFi adapter work AND even using various different USB WiFi adapters those won’t work either. The system sees them but won’t allow me to turn WiFi on.

Anyways I’m just trying to get a driver for the gpu to work and to install steam. Yes I know it’s old

Hello. Can you please send full system information here? type System Info in the start menu, there should be a button to show a report of full info on screen. Photograph each page clearly, in landscape mode and send.

  • also, if you have a smartphone and internet data plan, it may have a "hotspot" or "usb tethering" feature to share Internet access to your computer via USB cable

#

should i try driver 470 again?

manic plinth
#

can you check on this first please? (in terminal) mokutil --sb-state

languid garden
#

i have it disabled

manic plinth
#

ok

#

I see that nvidia card was released in 2013. Proprietary drivers may not be released anymore for linux mint. my guess is up to Mint version 20x they were

#

try the lowest version number offered in Driver Manager

rose birch
languid garden
#

so how do i go about getting the nouveau driver?

manic plinth
#

read ur termbin link. u are using it

languid garden
manic plinth
#

(or copy to clipboard, paste in text editor, the system information, for your own knowledge)

languid garden
#

I get a error when trying to install steam

#

dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.

#

I have i have ran that before

manic plinth
#

u may try opening synaptic package manager, hit reload button, and search rt8188, may get luck for the built-in wifi driver

languid garden
manic plinth
#

or rather, do a rfkill --output-all to see if any switch/ blocks for radios

languid garden
#

ID TYPE DEVICE TYPE-DESC SOFT HARD
1 wlan dell-wifi Wireless LAN unblocked blocked
2 wlan phy0 Wireless LAN unblocked unblocked

languid garden
#

Ok i feel stupid for that one.
Before about 4 months ago it actually wasnt working

#

I did a bios update in windows 7 yesterday

#

cool thats working.

languid garden
manic plinth
#

erm not super sure. I've seen Lot recommend rebooting, hit esc to enter grub menu, hit the mint advanced options, then i think recovery, and does a purple window in text mode, and there's a dpkg thing

#

I'll check my own synaptic too.

languid garden
#

what is this command for? dpkg --configure -a

manic plinth
#

idk but i rmemeber that in the purple recovery boot menu

languid garden
#

so i just tried to install steam and i got the same error as in the picture above^^

#

does that mean i can't get steam anymore?

manic plinth
#

did u do the thing i said from recovery at boot?

languid garden
#

no. so i need to reboot and go into recovery?

manic plinth
#

ya

#

mint advanced options from GRUB

#

in purple thing, run that dpkg item (only one mentioning it)

languid garden
#

it gives me a command line that says "grub"

#

when i hit esc

manic plinth
#

type normal

languid garden
#

ok then advanced options for lmde?

manic plinth
#

yes

languid garden
#

then recovery mode?

manic plinth
#

yes

languid garden
#

ok im back at desktop

manic plinth
#

kool

#

was there that purple thing shown?

languid garden
#

no?

#

it hit recovery mode

#

and it booted

manic plinth
#

oh

#

shrugs

#

im not expert on it

#

try installing Flatpak Steam from software manager

#

it's huge probably, but may work outside of dpkg/apt

languid garden
#

yeah just the install button the package manager?

#

because it doesnt work either

manic plinth
#

can u open software manager?

#

it should be faved in the start menu

languid garden
#

yeah i can open it but steam from there gives the same error

manic plinth
#

even if u pick steam (flathub) version?

languid garden
#

I grabbed the .deb from steam itself

#

im trying that

#

its doing alot more

manic plinth
#

if still mega buggered, (all the deb/apt/dpkg stuff) ur best timesaver would be to reinstall Mint

languid garden
#

and use regular mint?

manic plinth
#

whichever

languid garden
#

ok

#

I think it may be working.

#

thank you for the help!

manic plinth
#

you're welcome

manic plinth
languid garden
#

Also Im not sure that dpkg is actually fixed. I just used a different way of installing steam

manic plinth
#

speedstep's no good for Linux
