#Can't add folders to my drive

Is the NTFS system for windows, and you partitioned a different file system like ext4 for Mint? Are you booted into Mint trying to access the separate windows NTFS partition or are you trying to boot into the windows NTFS?
The ntfs was used in windows
Now I deleted windows and have only linux in my laptop
I use ext4 for mint
Ntfs was untouched
I BELIEVE your ntfs should be accessible via the root directory if I'm not mistaken?
Someone may be better equipped to handle this than myself.

that's the long way, and not if it isnt even mounted. Devices section is where it should be.
btw, if you're only using Linux now, move all the data to the linux side, and reformat that data partition to ext4. @safe bluff
faster mass-writes, and way less chance of disk errors
I have only 89gb in the linux one
also keep a separate backup of such things
100gb data used in the other oen
I don't have any paid storage services that's why this problem came for me
thumb drive. 64 GB or 128. cheap
small work now saves big cry for days later
Yes
one question though. did u try the fix in the manual link I sent?
Not yet
like, are you able to see the files from linux, AND are u able to write an new empty file?
oh ok . well try it
I can do everything in the folder like seeing them, opening them but I am unable to click create new folder
That's the only problem
if it still won't, u can use Hirens Boot CD PE, booted off a live USB stick. It gives a Windows PE desktop environment . u can run chkdsk /f on the NTFS partition from it.
o

simple question: if u try opening any folder in the NTFS drive "as root" (and put sudo password) can u create a new file then?
Should I make it to ext4 as well?
sure.
I cant
Okay also how do I format a pendrive
I still have a os in this and i can't seem to find the format option
you don't mind to blank the thumb drive?
I mean I need to get the windows in it
u want to save the windows ISO off a usb?
just use Ventoy
it's quite simple, and make the usb all-purpose
get the .tar.gz version.
scroll down when it redirects to sourceforge.net and get the tar
Okay
best tool ever imo. thousands of praises in the comments in the sourceforge page too
is this computer fairly new (within 6-8 years old)?
Yes ig 8 years old
kool
if u wanna see ROUGHLY how old, and dont want to look the website, just do inxi -M in terminal
assuming BIOS was never update, the BIOS date shown there will give an idea
Okay I'll try
note all commands or file/folder names are CASE-SENSITIVE.
I'll keep that in mind
type efibootmgr in terminal
Linux is so different compared to windows lol
does it show a wholeeee bunch of stuff?
Nah not supported
yeah ik that lol
No not yet
I messed up my taskbar everything combined
So i was fixing that
These seperator was not something I saw in windows
are u on Mint xfce?
i've dabbled in many things so yeah i knew that
anyway, here's the guide to set up ur usb as a bootable device with Ventoy: #1295816480256163892 message
just keep it on default MBR for your case. all defaults.
then follow this part at time stamp on video once u boot Hirens and open the command prompt as ADMIN :
I got it

but DONT do /r as he says.. that means surface scan, and will take forever
just the /f flag on the correct NTFS drive to test n fix
btw two crucial ISOs to keep on that usb are a) Mint or another good live distro and b) Hirens . never know when some emergency happens and those are ur golden ticket to rescue.
plus u can still use the remaining free space on the usb as backup space or whatever
i meant if u semi-brick ur linux
Can't do much
ah ok
Mm
yep
so acc to ur guide i should just paste the iso file into the usb drive and when i reboot it should work
the vid from few yrs back said it's 2.8 GB. feature bloat i guess
glad its not above 4gb atleast haha
yeah just wait a little (half a minute) after it's done copying
make sure to press boot menu key to get usb
i have the light so when it stops blinking ill remove it
i changed my priority to external device first
dont even remove it
so ig it doesnt matter
k ill just reboot
just let it chill a bit,
also general good practice if ur not fully shutting down, is to use the eject icon in the taskbar tray area or in file manager
after i do this i can use ntfs normally right
if ever removing external storage on-the-fly
okay
is there any way to make all the folders groups so it takes less space in taskbar?
yes. panel pref's > edit > Items tab> edit the window buttons item. should have a 'group similar' option
eg: highlight window buttons item in list. click the icon having a pencil
i cant find edit
properties of item, maybe
get it yet?
panel prefs: unlock panel
then u'll see tiny handles appear next to the bunch of window buttons
on their left
Yes
Found it thanks
cool. on the correct drive letter, I hope
in which case you should find it is writable now
but I still highly urge to switch over the file system to linux-native when u get the chance
Yeah I triple checked
is it working now in linux anyway?
I have to try
Also could you give me a guide or smth on how to use this os properly
This is my first time with linux
And I solved my first problem 💀
well there's a lot of handy tips in #1295728709306683482 here.
Okey
any other small questions u can just chat in main or ask in #1170387489542901851 . do check out the manual link from the server. and lookup Joe Collins on Youtube for lots of great calming chats on Linux stuff , esp. Mint
Was this supposed to be small
💀
Okay joe collins got it
small q. is 'how do I group taskbar icons'
Okay lol
well bye bye. enjoy
