Dualboot Mint X windows Issue

Description:__
I have a very old computer: HP EliteBook 8560W (~2011)
I want to make a dualboot Linux & windows on it.

• I reset my computer
• I reinstalled windows on a partition (50% of my hard drive)
• Windows was well installed
• I plug my boot Mint and launch it from the bios to do the usual linux installation procedure
• during the installation linux detected windows and then asked me if I wanted to install Linux next to windows, so I answered yes
• linux launched well
• Grub then offered me between windows and linux, I chose Windows, here is the error I was faced with:

Error : can't find <drivemap> command
Error : invalid EFI fuel path```

Now I reset all, and tried to make it again, and now mint did not recognize windows anymore

You need to install both operating systems with the same boot method. Your system may be old, but should still be new enough to have UEFI boot. Disable CSM in BIOS and install both in UEFI mode, and it should work.
If you are having issues, please tell use what you are making the install media with.

And mint I used rufus and the associated ISO file

4th time is now grub did not launch in the all begginning (maybe bc grub did not recognize windows ??)

go in BIOS, and put Windows Boot Manager to top of uefi boot order

if that exact term isn't available, then enable Legacy device boot list, and put the hard drive to top of list.

so to dual boot via GRUB, as Curunir said, they both must be loaded from USB in UEFI mode, and installed then as UEFI installs

I would recommend making one usb (needs to be 16 GB minimum) with Ventoy in GPT mode

then put BOTH the Win 10 ISO, and the Mint ISO on it. Disable all legacy devices from booting in BIOS. then boot ventoy stick as uefi usb

(last time I tried to install windows 10 from an iso file, my PC cannot read my boot key)

u can test it out.

the default way ventoy prepares the usb is MBR as I explained earlier of

u can try it that way first

if it wont boot any ISO that way, then clear ventoy, and redo it as GPT

it can run from either a Windows pc to do setup (ventoy2disk.exe) OR if u get the Linux version it can run on an existing Linux desktop (sudo sh ventoyweb.sh) for graphical setup window in a browser

windows 10 iso doesnt show easily on the microsoft page, but u can Google for it

You can also launch the media creation tool from another Windows computer, and it has an option to just download an ISO from there.

@delicate lichen when you install Windows, open a Run box or search, and run msinfo32 and look specifically at the line that says BIOS mode: , then install Linux the same way by booting the ISO accordingly. then Grub will work

oh and turn Windows Fast Startup off before u attempt to install Linux.

when u boot Mint ISO, then open terminal and do command efibootmgr if it says not supported, that's good, it means u booted in the same mode which Windows is currently installed.

After installing and reinstalling the dualboot all day long, there was no partition selection window, so normally it should take up the empty part.

are you able to pick now the 160 GB empty part, or is it giving a slider to divide the 159GB part?

From what I remember the day before yesterday, it had installed mint on half of windows, and when it did, there was a window indicating that the disk was going to be split, so I only had ~75GB on linux.

well test it ( I know you said you made it with Rufus) in case that usb doesnt want to work now... just erase it, and make with ventoy as before. and copy n paste the ISO from friend's stick to your stick
