#Need help installing Linux mint
28 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
When I simply select my drive, the biggest volume basically, and press install now, I get a message that says "no root file system"
Ur trying to dual boot?
download is not equal to install, btw
Mb
Yes
turn off fast startup
in Windows itself
and if it is UEFI-run, (confirm this by looking at the "BIOS MODE" listing in msinfo32 (windows system info) program
then be certain to boot the usb as a uefi usb
then u should get the option to install alongside,
also u should visit windows disk management, and photograph ur partitions, and learn which is which
Wdym, I already do tho? I just needed help with basically selecting, formatting and making a partition
Tad bit too late for that one unfortunately
I did the classic of pressing every single button until it worked, I don't want to sounds stupid even tho I am but yh
that's the manual 'something else' option u showed in pic.
see the 2nd video, first 6 minutes at very top of that link
it should say "install alongside windows"
I always thought dual boot was like a screen where it shows a windows icon and along side a Linux icon, stupid question but is that real / possible?
Ok ok
that indeed is a thing and is enabled by default for any distribution
