Already tried ALT + Print screen to no avail, any tips would be appreciated.

try ctrl-alt-backspace as soon as it crashes. (will do an emergency logout)

Mint is very stable. apps shouldn't crash; unless they're crappy

Can you get to another TTY (ctrl+alt+F5) after the crash?
