I don't know if it's possible to remove the app launchers from there, though you can remove that applet and download another from the applet manager, if there's one that can do that.

try r-click the volume icon : configure applet

yeah @tidal jetty there's an option to remove the player control, the first option in the sound applet settings, and it removes that part of the menu (letting you to only control sound, without media control like stop, next, etc)
