check first, in terminal mokutil --sb-state
ensure Secure Boot is OFF, and stays off. Go in BIOS setup when u reboot and adjust if necessary.
- Then, and only then, open Driver Manager in Linux Mint, and choose an Nvidia driver, and apply it. Then reboot for it to take effect.
hm how old is pc?
Very old
do a command:
It had windows 7 tho
inxi -SCGxx and show its results
lsmod | grep -E 'nvidia|nouveau|i915 in terminal to see what card is in use
Gt525m
and this, please
what?
^^^
ok it probably wont have secure boot, 2nd gen. core I
so go to driver manager, and see if it offers the nouveau open source driver, and apply it
ok log out then and at login manager, click the circle icon with mountains
and choose "cinnamon in software rendering mode"
hopefully then u will have adjustable resolution, but ur nvidia graphics are not supported.
@ripe dock in terminal type sudo modprobe nouveau to attempt to load nouveau. keep in mind your card is ancient so nouveau won't have much performance difference with nvidia nonfree
Like this?
yep
I also know curunir had a silmar issue a bit ago and he just used the integrated intel card. but yours sadly has Nvidia only
Maaaaaan
no dropdown?
Should I roll back to win 7
No
Okay I'll try
then switch back to default
So I should switch then try what lot wrote right?
doesn't look good
Even linux doesn't want my laptop. I feel bad for it
lol u need an older distro that MAY still support that videocard
you probably are right. Ubuntu 20.04 or 22.04 should support it
Legacy GeForce 400/500
Supported on current stable Xorg server release. EOL by NVIDIA at the end of 2022. Still available on "best effort basis" (newer kernel may break, will be discontinued at anytime if not actively maintained)
So I should download old mint os to make it work?
What is the version that will probably work with my GPU?

Okay 👍
21.3 should be fine. all 21 series uses 5.15 kernel
