Hello, I have been trying to install linux on my old windows 10 laptop, i have the iso already but I don't have any usb sticks or CDs available right now, someone on google told me I had to use unetbootin and I almost installed it but it gets stuck in a step, can someone recomend me a way to install linux mint without the usb stick and cd?

I do have a few sd cards laying around though
you could get a usb card reader to use a SD card
or install a virtial machine like virtial box onto the Windows OS, and give the vm passthru access to the hard drive. then slap the iso in the vm, start it, and choose 'something else' and install manually to the hdd. (see the Disks application in Accessories in mint menu first to see the disks and drive names/partition numbers)
note: turn off Windows Fast Startup in Control Panel and reboot first, to do the dual boot method using a VM way.
^ the manual installer chart page.
you'd highlight the Windows partition with lots of free space on it, then click the change button, and resize (shrink it by say 40 to 150 GB)
then click the free space in the chart, and click the plus sign near the change button to add a new partition matching what's shown in picture there for type and mountpoint (/) and format tick. Ignore the last 2 partitions in the diagram.
Hello, thank you for your help, I am trying to partition the hdd but instead of "free space" i have "unusuable" and I can't click on the plus sign
hmm perhaps is the Windows space Bitlocker-encrypted?
that or idk if you are in VM, and the real hard drive passthrough is not being accessed or set up right
the rest of the files showed up, only the free space I made partitioning showed up as unusuable
what does that mean?
it means the volume which u commonly know as "C" drive may be encrypted by Windows using a thing they call Bitlocker
check in windows disk management
if u see ANY mention of bitlocker there, then that's the case
will there be a way to undo this encryption?
