After I had issues even installing LM, after using KDE neon for a while, I was finally able to do so, and then proceeded to install the most important programs like Discord and steam. So then I took the steps needed to be able to play windows games (activating Proton) I tried launching a game. It first pretends to load for about a second, before the button turns green again. I only have ONE Game that works but very glitchy. Even Minecraft is refusing to work. Yes, I have made sure to install the GPU drivers and have even tried changing the kernel and none of it works. As far as I am concerned, Java is installed with Linux Mint.

System info:
CPU: Intel core I5 10600kf
GPU: Nvidia 3060ti (MSI ventus 2x) {if I remember right}
Ram: 32 Gigabyte
OS: Linux Mint 21.2

check in terminal on the GPU info, to make sure the drivers are running smoothly/applied

what is the steam game that won't launch? is it Windows only? if so, you also need to enable compatibility
this can also happen if your games are on a NTFS volume

it is as said, all steamgames exept one not working. and that one is also working very glitchy. my partiton the games are running on is Ext4 according to the formatting program on LM.
I have Java 17 active when I run 'java --version'

thats what I thought too. never had any issues with Linux mint on the very same PC!

I have made a discovery: I have now tried multiple distros on my PC, and they each present different probblematic issues from games not working to Programs refusing to be installed. those problem are not present on my laptop I am now on with Ubuntu 22.04. there must be something very wrong with my hardware going on

I will try to completly wipe my PC to original state. if that doesnt help, IDK what will

update: completly wiping my PC seems to have helped. but I will still keep this post open until friday incase it turns out, that my PC is trolling me

Please set up timeshift snapshots so you can roll back if you need to

One challenge that new folks run into a lot is that there are LOTS of tutorials out there. Some good some poor many outdated. If you don't have a lot of understanding it can be hard to judge what to follow. This can lead you to a state where you started with one challenge and may have made any number of changes to try to fix the original problem and may have unknowningly created other issues.

Being able to roll back to a known good state can be invaluable.
