#need help switching to windows with ventoy
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
This isn't really mint support
You could always use a windows computer to run the official microsoft usb installer creator
if you don't have one a friend certainly does
Windows 10 is still more broadly compatible than 11 which not every machine can run
you want to install the version your computer came with and it should pick up the product key from the bios. If this doesn't work you can either buy windows again or talk to microsoft tech support
If you actually are on mint, ignore ventoy then and use the built in image writer to just directly flash your windows iso onto it.l, if its that urgent.
Also, yeah, wrong place.
ah sorry
If you followed the directions to set up ventoy properly you should have the option to boot ventoy
when i go into bios?
when you hit the motherboard specific hotkey to pick a boot target
mk
Just put the iso after you install ventoy on the usb
the one that flashes by when you start up where it says "hit F11 (or whateer) to pick something to boot
And then run the iso in the ventoy menu(dont use normal mode)
Highly suggest you use the actual ISOs from microsoft rather than some pirated crap
i am
and you'll want to pick the same version you effectively paid for with your computer
Home vs Pro yada yada
again not all computers can run 11, 10 is broadly compatible and still supported
this one was bought with windows 11 on it
then go with that
yup
Gudbye from linux
if you aren't dual booting you can turn on secure boot if need be, either way you can disable compatibility support. There is basically zero reason to use legacy boot
and if you install in legacy mode you are stuck with it
oh yeah when i tried last time successfully it was telling me i needed drivers for some kind of recognition
you may well
so i had to cancel
welcome to windows land
you can get the random crap you need at your OEMs website
way out of scope
you'll have to use google or call your manufacturers support line
you rarely need drivers to do the install unless windows literally can't read your drive
but there is a button in the gui to load drives if you have to do that
same screen or thereabouts where you pick a drive to install to
Why
idk???
idk???
So can u give me photo or vid
tried using this to make the usb boot first
systemctl reboot --firmware-setup
got "secure boot failed"
Hm
literalyl watch your computer boot and look for the hotkey to be displayed on the screen
or read the manual for your computer or motherboard
or google select boot target "brand"
Its different for every mother board
But its really common to be like f12 f11 or delete
or pay geeksquad to put windows back on your computer
yeah it was f11 but i only got it to work once
Oh i know that
When u turn ur pc on just keep holding f11
Dont click it when the logo appears
Or else it don't work(atleast for me)
lets be honest if mean
if you are so completely incapable that its this hard to even boot the usb
consider just paying someone to set you up
its not workkkiiiiing
Vid pls
lots of people could do their own plumbing if they were willing to work at it but they don't they hire a plumber
thanks for not trying to be helpful anymore
i'm talking on the laptop i am trying to change to windows ;w;
Do u got a phone or something
can't use it atm
telling someone the best way to get from A and B is helping its just not your preferred help
if you were helping someone do a plumbing project and they asked whether to turn stuff clockwise or counter clockwise to loosen it and had to explain what a wrench is one begins to imagine the best help possible is to hire a plumber
you're not helping, you're telling me to go and pay someone to help me
When i couldn't get into bios i just tried over and over again also since you are on your laptop talking with us and wont be able to talk from windows setup i will show you the solution to some shit that might appear
alright thank you
If you get this error "we couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one for more information see the setup log"
Make a 5gb partition from setup and then use cmd to copy all of the setup files to it
The tech support forum there is an appropriate venue to get help installing windows
the furthest i got was using the built in disk thing and then it said i needed drivers
Here is a guide if it looks confusing
▶ In This Video You Will Find How To Fix Error We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one When Installing Windows 11 / 10 / 8 / 7 ✔️.

Also there is another solution that didn't solved my problem back in the day but im going to tell you anyway is that you need to remove every other usb stick from your device besides rhe one with windows
again microsoft's discord is a better venue to get assistance with installing windows
if you need drivers the appropriate drivers are on your computers support page
on the screen where you pick a drive to install to there is a load drivers button
because windows doesn't include drivers for your drives or intel RST
make sure you have rst disabled
whats rst
Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) is a driver SATA AHCI and a firmware-based RAID solution built into a wide range of Intel chipsets. Currently also is installed as a driver for Intel Optane temporary storage units.
what butter dog said, but it's a setting in your BIOS you can turn it off before installing Windows.
then it might recognize the drive.
It recognises the drives i still cnat install them
another possible thing is to erase the drive first fully, using Mint usb live environment
you boot the mint live ISO to demo desktop, then u launch gparted (just search the apps menu for it by name)
then do precisely as shown in the red text above. pick the SSD, then do step 2
gpt
After that's done, close gparted and shutdown. Then boot the Windows installer iso
"It recognises the drives i still cnat install them"
can you be more specific? are the drivers recognised in windows or firmware? you can't install what?
Seems likely that it needs to load the windows driver that would be found at the manufacturers website
@ornate talon the challenge with that is that the windows iso provided by microsoft isn't designed to be written to a usb drive, its not a hybrid iso. Directly written it doesn't work. If you use woeusb it will properly set it up for you or whatever tool suits
You can also use isohybrid on the iso and then it will work
but its easier for most people to use woeusb to make the windows disk or better yet even the windows installer tool for microsoft on their other windows computer
Is this a new thing? It used to work last time I did it with windows 10. Perhaps I just misremember.
