#I am trying to add a lock screen to my laptop.

You skipped setting a password?
I have a password
So uhhh, what do you mean exactly by adding a lock screen?
Well I am assuming it has something similar to windows 10, but maybe not
Where when you turn it on it starts on a lock screen
I'm not exactly familiar if this is possible. I've only seen it once in Cinnamon desktop, though that was waking up from a suspended state.
What desktop environment are you on? I'll see if there's anything.
isnt this enabled by default on linux mint unless you change the option on cinnamon?
Are you pertaining to the slick-greeter?
Nate here is pertaining to something like cinnamon-screensaver
ohh
Like this, right Nate?
I just checked the screen saver app and can't find anything on turning it on at boot
Yeah
Maybe check this one Nate

thanks, I will try to get that working, if i get that working will it just add different backgrounds to my lock screen?
if so I will keep looking for something else that adds a lock screen on boot up, if that is possible.
Not really. It also gives something similar to Windows' lockscreen.
So no need to deal with the second one I guess.
Usually just configs.
k thanks i will try to set it up.
Please tell me about it when you got it going man, have a good one!
will do.
all u gotta do is go to settings: login window, erase ur username from autologin field, and toggle the manual login switch near the top. done.
dude, I am blind, thanks
Now when I turn it on it asks for a login and I put mine in and then it asks for a password and no matter what I try to type in nothing shows up.
check ur caps-lock and numlock are in proper state
They are
I the my login and that works
But when I try to type in the password no characters are typed
maybe it just hides
Maybe
does it login to desktop?
No
do ctrl alt F4 and login
then after that is successful, do startx
then do ctrl-alt-F7
Nothing happened
I tried multiple times
I can boot into different OS's like normal cinnamon and the advanced options for cinnamon and Linux mint 22 wilma and the advanced options for that and UEFI firmware options
that's weird. all you did was tick the manual login option in the settings on Cinnamon, right?
you didn't install another desktop or do something to remove the existing desktop did u, right after that?
or did u install another greeter perhaps?
show a picture of the screen that you get where you can put in your username and password after the computer starts up and loads to it.
I didn't do anything like install a new greeter or different desktop.
Uh oh that is not normal
The fact that startx failed is very worrying
I’m assuming that this messed up with grub or any initialization configuration. I’m so sorry but when that happen end to me I had to reset
I will say though that Linux Mint already has a way to change your login background: System Settings, Login Window, and you can change the background image
