#My screen is flickering on Mint and other Linux distros what should I do?
140 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
My other screen (165 hz) is plugged into my motherboard (Intel Integrated Graphics) and it works perfectly fine.
27
(This one is mine)
that doesnt work
@spare egret
now it won't even show a picture anymore :(
@pseudo cave u helped me last time can u help me this time too?
pls
I personally think it has to do with him using the nouveau driver
its saying that there's no connection over display port but i got it in my gpu
how do i change it
That can be a driver issue
im in the ventoy stick only rn cuz i dont wanna install it till i found a solution
It there an NVIDIA logo in the “taskbar”
no
Or an Intel one either
no
Shit
Also I tried having him turn on software rendering, it cooked it
Out of plain curiosity, go back to that menu and try “cinnamon on WAYLAND (experimental)”
@onyx dawn
what menu
the login screen?
Yes the circle one
im in the ventoy stick rn how do i do that
I think it’s a post install thing, I’ll wait for someone better at this than me
just reboot, go to bios, make sure secure boot is disabled. (very important for nvidia drivers to work) then reboot to uefi usb stick (if your system is new n has uefi) and choose compatibility mode
then test
secure boot might be enabled
after install you'll need to do nomodeset at startup, and then bootup and go to driver manager and switch to recommended nvidia drivers, then reboot again normally
see https://youtu.be/ZzC4xCMBe1Y?t=199 at timestamp on how to do it AFTER installation is complete, when you FIRST attempt to boot to installed Mint

it works in compatability mode but not in normal mode
is it described on how to nomodeset in the video?
yep just follow what I wrote plus the timestamp then install nvidia and next boot u wont have to worry
ok i will ping if any issues occur
so ill do an install and then follow the steps you said above? @pseudo cave
i just wanna doublecheck everything
can confirm that is good advice
oh i forgot to say, in case u dont see grub menu at startup, hold down either Shift key. do it about 4 seconds u turn the power on and hold down a few seconds and grub should appear, then hit e and do as he shows in vid
if shift doesnt work, then use Escape key
i spammed it cuz it doesnt work if i hold it
now im in this cmd window how do i get back?
installed
yh i know what i should do but i saw the menu pop up but cuz im spamming esc it brings me into the cmd window
actually u dont even have to if u are able to reach desktop
i just wanted to know if theres a cmd that brings me back
idk
and adjust timeshift auto schedule to once per week, not 5 times a day, which IMO is the crazy default
omg thx it works now imma use mint from now on
check ur status. type : inxi -CSGxx command and show here
ill try with the other dp cable
also
no its when i turn it on 240 hz its not working anymore
see if nvdia applet is in tray
u may have to switch cuz u have 2 gpu
otherwise type applets in start menu: add/remove, and search for prime applet for nvidia switching and install it
wait it works fine with the other cable, ill try to connect my 2nd monitor again
take notes here where it talks about screens and monitors , like what port is doing what
cant connect my 2nd monitor rn
and what card is doing what port, and monitor, etc.
just so u know what the system is trying to do
idk i mean its solved but i still have to get a new dp cable
how much fps can hdmi 2.1 do
ill just get a dp
so it works now basically but sometimes i also see that the screen turns black for a short amount of time like every 3 seconds or so in an interval
yeah it just happend again
idk why it worked perfectly fine on windows but now when i switched to mint it just doesnt anymore
and its getting more frequent :(
turn the refresh rate down to something human then.
noooo why did i get the monitor then :((((
marketing. ur eyes/brain can't see past 100 Hz anyway. it's human limit
i can see a good difference between 120 and 240
¯_(ツ)_/¯
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
might be some weird gsync setting that I have absolutely no idea about cuz im not linus tech tips nor linus torvalds
someone else can chime in on this
doesnt have gsync
not true lol
can you ping someone for the isssue you think you can get them to help? would be really helpful
@rigid bone @tiny panther do you have idea why 2nd screen at 240 Hz refresh, via Display Port occasionally lightly flickers? Nvidia RTX 3060 with 550 drivers in use.
x11
does it work with cinnamon Wayland?
and does it work on other OS?
or even just when entering firmware setup
@onyx dawn try that
works on windows
yeah it displays just stutter occasionally
well, it'd exclude issues with the connection cable
what precise port and CARD is ur first monitor that works perfectly connected to?
if nvidia has 2 ports. use them. dont put one on other card, and one monitor on nvidia
I would try to use Wayland on cinnamon, or a different distro with more up-to-date drivers like fedora, install at least 555 (this fixed a loooot of wayland issues) and use a Wayland DE like plasma or gnome
you can try to get 555 or 560 driver using graphics PPA on mint
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
sudo apt update
Henri, log out, click the circle with mountains, and choose cinnamon wayland (experimental) then log in
it's not perfect, and u may need to switch back to X the rare time for updating (due to a wayland/mint bug) but it may help ur display case
thanks for ur input
Please first ascertain that both screens are attached to the same GPU and running through that GPU. The inxi command you linked showed only one screen attached, and it was attached to the iGPU.
@onyx dawn did you solve this?
not rly, i dont use linux anymore cuz the screen is flickering
