#Where i can find a Linux Mint Efi file?
81 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
u can etch an official mint ISO usb with rufus or fedora image writer , then check in the boot folder on the usb
(or DVD if u wish)
i did it and it needs to use a efi file
shim?
i found it but i need to know which one:
shouldnt have to deal with that
i need
if it's saying needs shim
it tells
idk record the error message
it just shows "there is no system on your hard drive". and when i am going to use the F9 boot (boot manager)
it tells to find a efi file
did u install linux or are about to?
about to and i have bought a empty SSD to do it
great. is it a fairly new computer? within 9 years?
nope. 11
so 2013.. it may be legacy bios
no. it is UEFI
what did u use to prepare the usb stick?
grubx64.efi
is the file you want to use
There is nothing there

Your computer IS going to break. Your computer IS going to crash ...at some point. Be prepared BEFORE it happens with these two easy to make USB repair discs. Trust me, when it happens you will be so thankful that you did. No PC repair costs, just boot to these drives and get access to tall the Windows repair tool...
see from timestamp
what do you want there to be
u may need to re-do rufus
you need to make it gpt btw
Ok
and press alt+e as he says
Ok wait
and use fat32 in style in rufus program
i am going to use it
hmm, do you have a live Linux usb? you can add a firmware entry from there. some specific bioses also support adding a bootloader, see if yours has an option to.
nope.
nope what?
i cant add a bootloader
see what stunner said. or just remake the usb drive with ventoy as GPT mode
i am doing it
why are you wagaring today?
-
don't worry, remaking the usb as the guy in vid shows and it should then n show up as a bootable device.
-
If it still fails then try ventoy with GPT set in its setup Options menu (in partition style submenu)
I am going to see my local technician to just install it remotely on my SSD
did u try that checkbox that shows in vid to allow old bios' to see it ?
yes
I was gonna say if that didnt immediately get u results, then u gotta enter ur actual BIOS, i saw it mentioned F10 in that early picture
once in main BIOS setup, u have to look in Boot category
there u may find two priority lists
one for legacy boot order, one for UEFI device boot order
I would suggest disable Legacy mode/CSM support, the option is in there somewhere.
Then move the UEFI USB Storage drive (it may call it a drive , a usb hard drive, or usb key)
to the very top of the UEFI priority list
then save n exit BIOS. The next boot up, with the USB plugged in (if made properly) it will automatically just boot to it.
I did it many times
I ain’t that dumb
wow. why's it being so difficult!?
IDK
so, if ur saying UEFI USB is at top of list, and there's no "other" setting in the BIOS that could affect things such as Secure Boot, or similar thing that blocks booting from external devices...
in that case, then it must be either the flash drive or the way it was etched shrugs
Nope. I have previously installed windows 8 on it and it worked but with linux it is hard AF
so u followed the exact steps from the timestamp of the Rufus video I posted (it runs about 2 minutes, the relevant part)
eg: launch Rufus, immediately press Alt+E,
I did everything that was on the video
then add the ISO, then tick the "work with old bioses" thingy, then choose FAT32 in the format as: box
Made it long time ago. Back on 1st install (more like a try)
do u have another pc or VM with linux mint or say, ubuntu on it?
it has a built-in usb writer that is much simpler, and just forges a direct image much like a CD-burner would
I have a raspberry pi 400 and also a normal windows pc
I tried even a cdboot
um. try on Windows PC, google Fedora Image Writer, and get it. it's available as a windows program
Ok. I’ll make a update tomorrow cuz for me it’s 9:37 PM
And i powered off my pc
k
I have fixed it but i am going to need to go fix the cooling system. I just used a DVD with LM
