Greetings I have just finished an unconventional PC build and I find myself in an annoying situation. On every boot mint sees a monitor that no longer exists and uses that as the primary monitor forcing me to log in on a black screen. I have attempted looking into this but for some reason I can't get the monitor to disappear from boot; only after I log in does it disable the monitor. There is no way to fix it in Hardware due to the way this PC is built and I'm not an expert in mint or Linux in general so I don't have any immediate understanding of what might be causing this.

Settings>Displays> choose real monitor: Set as Primary

#

also search "single display" in mint-support channel here for solution if Displays settings shows an "unknown" imaginary 2nd monitor still.

For me it didn't show the display is unknown

Still I was able to use the trick of making the 20 ignore config file

The annoying part is every time I change my monitor configuration or change the drivers for the graphics it changes the naming of the display I want omitted
