For some reason, the computer says the storage is full (%98 used)
I tried opening the terminal and typed df -h .
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/cow 3.8G 3.7G 65M 99% /
This is what the computer showed me, I don't know what went wrong, it's supposed to say 1TB..

#

Now it says 100% used

onyx thunder
#

can you send the output of lsblk

rigid blaze
#

AME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINTS
loop0 7:0 0 2.3G 1 loop
sda 8:0 0 931.5G 0 disk

onyx thunder
#

Also, pls send a ss of system monitor > Disks . you can open system monitor by pressing the windows key and typing 'system monitor'

onyx thunder
#

Have you tried rebooting?

rigid blaze
#

its because the pc is still "installing" linux mint

onyx thunder
#

Because it appears that your disks arent properly mounted. You can also go to the disks app and try to unmount and remount all non system disks

rigid blaze
#

yeah

onyx thunder
#

Are you in the middle of installing Linux Mint?

onyx thunder
rigid blaze
#

i got worried with the fact that it keeps saying storage full

onyx thunder
#

Just let the installer do its thing after which youll be able to reboot successfully into Mint

rigid blaze
onyx thunder
onyx thunder
onyx thunder
rigid blaze
onyx thunder
#

Installing Mint should not take more than 25-30 mins usually

rigid blaze
onyx thunder
onyx thunder
rigid blaze
#

i think me trying to fix the storage issue may have stalled the installation

onyx thunder
#

Your installer is clearly stuck at somewhere

rigid blaze
onyx thunder
rigid blaze
onyx thunder
#

Alright

rigid blaze
#

i fear that the pc wont recognize the bios because it was using win 11

#

it recognized the bios 🙏

onyx thunder
rigid blaze
onyx thunder
#

A computer's BIOS is completely separate from what OS it has. Deleting an OS will not even touch the BIOS

rigid blaze
#

the thing is: it wasn't recognizing the files

onyx thunder
#

To put simply, the BIOS is stored on a separate flash storage device (think of it like a mini hdd) separately on the mobo

rigid blaze
#

the bios wouldn't recognize the os*

onyx thunder
#

I hope your mint installer is now working properly

onyx thunder
rigid blaze
#

that part was fixed but I don't think it will happen again

onyx thunder
#

it should not happen again, *hopefully 😅 *

rigid blaze
#

ok so

#

the installer is asking to dismount using partitions

#

/dev/sdb

onyx thunder
rigid blaze
onyx thunder
#

I do not understand what you are trying to convey

onyx thunder
rigid blaze
#

already changed the language

#

the computer restarted

rigid blaze
onyx thunder
#

Click on Yes

rigid blaze
onyx thunder
#

just try it by clicking yes to everything, since windows is deleted and you have nothing to loose. if it still doesnt work properly then ill help you install it using the 3rd option of the installer, something different

rigid blaze
#

why its saying i have so many partitions 💀

onyx thunder
#

BRO WTF

#

the sizes of those partitions is insane
@lavish ether any ideas about what is happening

rigid blaze
#

😭 do i just delete them or what

#

@onyx thunder

onyx thunder
#

try

lavish ether
#

sda is the drive to install upon

#

sdb is the usb drive from which the installer exists on

#
  • your sda partitions are a total mess
#
  • if u want to do a clean install, choose "erase disk and install Mint" it will automatically take care of the rest
#
  • if there is current important data to save on sda, either move it to online storage, or copy it to a different USB
rigid blaze
lavish ether
#

no shit. why are u trying to do expert manual install?

rigid blaze
rigid blaze
#

now it asked, but still wanted me to increase the partitions size to 8 GB

lavish ether
#

ok just prepare the disk first. close the installer

#

nothing to save right?

rigid blaze
rigid blaze
#

the pc is supposed to be empty

#

but it was full of partitions

lavish ether
#

how old is the computer from when it was made?

rigid blaze
#

i think from 2015

lavish ether
#

k

#

are u booted up now in live desktop?

#

i saw this before and it's the old layout

lavish ether
rigid blaze
lavish ether
#

ok hit windows key, type disks

rigid blaze
#

ok

lavish ether
#

how many disk devices do u see?

#

should be 3

#

1 TB disk

#

1 USB

#

1 Loop device

rigid blaze
#

yeah

lavish ether
#

and that's it right?

rigid blaze
lavish ether
#

click the 1 tb device

#

in titlebar, will say the dev name

#

list it please

#

is it dev/sda ??

#

@rigid blaze

rigid blaze
#

my phone died sorry

rigid blaze
lavish ether
#

k. press Windows key, type gparted

rigid blaze
#

in a desperate attempt to fix before i deleted the partitions and there is 902GiB unallocated

rigid blaze
lavish ether
#

in top right box in gparted, does it show sda?

#

@rigid blaze

rigid blaze
lavish ether
#

go to Device menu

#

click make new partition table

#

choose GPT

#

then proceed.

rigid blaze
#

done

lavish ether
#

u should have only one big space now

rigid blaze
lavish ether
#

close it

rigid blaze
#

931.51GiB unallocated

lavish ether
#

run mint installer

#

choose "erase and install Mint" (sda)

rigid blaze
lavish ether
#

do NOT unmount sdb if asked

rigid blaze
#

thanks

#

i needed that computer somehow working for school & stuff

lavish ether
#

hey @rigid blaze did you install fully and successfully?

#

if so, then you should save and read this PDF it will help u understand Mint and how to get stuff, etc. #1272611699341660241 message

lavish ether
#

it's older, but official. latest website doesnt even have it and the online user guide barely says anything

rigid blaze
#

ooh :o rare find then, appreciate it

lavish ether
#

you're welcome. enjoy you new Mint ❤️

#

mark this one solved.

lavish ether
lavish ether
# lavish ether

this pic, especially the green line and /cdrom says it all

rigid blaze
#

damn 😭

#

it's my first time doing this by myself tbh

lavish ether
#

installer only must be flashed to a usb drive, or in a DVD-recorder to a writable DVD

rigid blaze
lavish ether
#

well at least u made the usb later

rigid blaze
#

the bootable pendrive with linux also stopped working at the time i did that

lavish ether
#

was it made with Etcher?

rigid blaze
lavish ether
#

did u choose dd mode or hybrid iso write in Rufus?

rigid blaze
#

hybrid

lavish ether
#

cuz dd will make it appear as read-only DVD

#

are u able to write on that usb now/

rigid blaze
rigid blaze
lavish ether
#

so it's fine then

#

i would recommend to keep Mint (or Ubuntu, or some live distro) on the drive; in case u cant boot ur pc from hard drive due to some messup in future

#

and use Ventoy

[SOLVED] Storage almost "full"

#

[SOLVED] Storage almost "full"

lavish ether
#

it is a flasher tool, but it also lets u have multiple ISO/bootable tools, AND keep regular files all on one USB stick

lavish ether
#

i can send u the website and text

rigid blaze
#

btw is it possible to have 3 different os? planning it for a future pc

lavish ether
#

rigid blaze
#

lavish ether
#

lavish ether
#
