maybe you can help. running linux cinammon lmde and ran an update and upgrade - when it ran the system lost its toolbar and information.

if he shows up here I'll tag him in. What do I need from him to help him get it back?

Yeah, I ran the latest update of LMDE on a laptop that was sent to me. the system was running perfectly, but after the update and upgrade the panel went away

#

I've run a variety of things: dconf reset -f /org/cinnamon/ didn't do anything

twilit merlin
#

it may have been an applet in the panel that should have been turned off before upgrading

#

alt-F2,

#

cinnamon-settings

#

go to Panels item

tight warren
#

I'm looking at Panels now

twilit merlin
#

add a new one

#

is it blank?

tight warren
#

computer froze - one sec

#

it sticks when trying to open a panel - computer freezes

twilit merlin
#

u mean when making a new one?

tight warren
#

there is no response on opening a new panel

#

it just hangs

twilit merlin
#

list the exact before and after versions of lmde

#

was it a major distribution upgrade from 5 to 6?

#

u can do ctrl-alt-backspace
ctrl-alt-f2

#

login in black screen as usual

tight warren
#

yes, it was 5 to 6

twilit merlin
#

then sudo apt update

#

then sudo apt install --reinstall cinnamon-desktop

#

then sudo reboot

#

that's it

tight warren
#

ok, trying it now

#

there is no panel

twilit merlin
#

after that whole procedure?

tight warren
#

it looks exactly the same

twilit merlin
#

add a new panel

tight warren
#

that's what i was thinking

twilit merlin
#

hopefully wont crash this time

tight warren
#

it doesn't crash, but there's no response

#

like the system shrugs at it

any progress on this after the last suggestion, @tight warren ?

No, not really. something is broken between Xauthority and cinnamon starting. I tried a startx in tty console and it failed. For now I'm running xfce

#

It's a strange issue
