#Dualbooting Windows - Linux Error

If you want to redo the Windows to UEFI boot mode, the SSD must be in GPT partition layout style. you can check that in Disk Management. hover over the words "disk 0" (whatever the SSD is), right-click> Properties> Volume tab
then u need a 16 GB thumb drive prepared with Ventoy (GPT option from its menu) then put fresh Windows installer ISO on it, plus Linux Mint.
You'll need the Mint iso for cleaning or Boot Repair tool possibly
You can't have a legacy and UEFI boot at same time. Both systems must use same boot mode. Reinstall windowz clean in UEFI mode then same with mint.
its multiboot flasher utility. However, if you've made the usb with media creation tool, just use that.
as long as u boot it as a uefi usb device
This btw @olive walrus
Bios mode should be UEFI only
Then reinstall your systems so they boot in pure UEFI
ya if the OEM did that, you'll have to reinstall

Also I got 2 hdds and 1 sdd
You could convert windowz to GPT but it may not be a clean conversion
So better backup and reinstall
that's the SSD?
Yup the sdd where Windows is installed
So u either redo the whole thing, OR just reinstall Mint as legacy
I don't care whatever you guys think is the best
But why is the B: drive also MBR?
The drive where linux is installed?
what's on it?
I put all my personal files on that drive because its 2tb
You should use pure UEFI + GPT
and linux mint made a partion on that b: drive of 400gb
it can still have that partition scheme, but Mint happened to install via uefi cuz of the way u booted the usb installer media
Use legacy MBR only when you can't use UEFI/lack it
up to u how much time u want to spend. I would just reinstall Mint as legacy
Legacy won't do as it will limit the partitions to 4 max
then its grub will happily boot windows
turn on csm/legacy, and boot mint live usb as a plain usb device
You should use UEFI when available
then redo that

🎥 How to Convert MBR to GPT During Windows 10/8/7 Installation
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/disk-management/change-an-mbr-disk-into-a-gpt-disk
Change a Master Boot Record (MBR) into a GUID partition table (GPT) disk
How to Convert MBR to GPT During Windows 10/8/7 Installation.
Sometimes, when you are trying to install Windows on your PC, "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. the selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI system, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks" error message pops up and interrupts the installing process. Please note t...
You can do that or clean install windowz
Then you install mint on UEFI mode
already is
Isnt mint already installed on uefi?
Anyways try that
backup any bookmarks or other data on Windows before messing with it, @olive walrus
I've backed up everything
Okay so
I need to make a boot usb with rufus
and put in that windows 10 iso
Just use ventoy
Okay!
as soon as u open rufus, press alt-E, and set it to uefi mode
Okay Imma use rufus
Oh
is that what alt-e brought up?
what did alt-e bring up when u first launched rufus?
and..
k just remember to boot the stick as uefi device when installing win
ya
Also thanks you alot!
take your time, read everything well. watch that web thing minami posted about conversion
Just remember to convert to GPT your windowz install
this
don't touch Mint
Ill wont touch it
ur jst fixing windows on its own drive and that drive's partition scheme. follow vid
27% Rufus
Yes. It's official from Microsoft. I've already converted several disks to GPT
Tho I always recommend a clean install
I have selected the usb from UEFI boot sources
good
Uhh
Grub doesnt appear?
It just boots directly into windows now?
.
My disk is now GPT
But when I boot my PC
It opens into WIndows
No grub menu
Linux just boots normally
Is it something with the boot priority?
I disabled fast startup...
could the boot order be the problem?
I can boot linux from going into the bios and selecting 'Ubuntu"
so probably what happened is the bootloader for Mint was put on the SSD. that got redone when Windows reinstalled
basically, all u really need to do is set the operating system you most usually use to the top of the UEFI boot priorities in the BIOS
When you want to switch to the other one, you simply press the BIOS Boot menu key at startup, and it will show a small blue screen of other bootable things, and u pick the other OS.
I could be wrong on the presumption of Grub having been on the SSD. It may have been on the hard drive, in which case grub's still there, it just may need an update or boot repair .
