I recently installed mint on my pc and it's been giving me these errors every boot. I try playing different games that ran on 100+ fps on windows that now run barely on 60fps(same graphic settings). I did stuff such as reformatting storage drives to ext4 to prevent proton from erroring to tweaking nvidia settings and it seems to still not work.

i think you might be running the nouveau drivers instead of the nvidia propriatary drivers
thus causing poor performance
go to the driver manager and select the latest nvidia drivers
also we have the same cpu lol i5 3470
I keep selecting the nvidia driver 545 and it seems to keep being on the nouveau one...
I did like 8 reboots selecting all 4 other nvidia drivers and restarting upon it being installed
This is the last one I selected
I got an error trying to install 545 driver
the 525 nvidia driver was known to work well. Idk if it still appears in driver manager. If not, search nvidia in Synaptic package manager, and see what is available. (may have to switch to Nouveau and reboot first) then search. You may have to uninstall 545 in Synaptic, and install slightly older one.. or if older one doesn't show up in results list, choose one that does, then go to Package menu> Force version.
you card shows as a GTX 1050 which is older, so try above ^
Also turn OFF Secure Boot, this can interfere with driver loading, and is probably the cause of that boot error messages.
Will do, I do have secure boot disabled, let me reboot and take a picture
Ok I'm on nouveau driver, how do I remove the nvidia package safely?
well that's a good start. Have to wait for some others to chime in on this.
Alright, I can watch my show in the meanwhile
I don't have any so I can't tell you directly, but try to narrow the search down to just nvidia-driver until you find one with a green box (indicating it is installed,) and read the description to be sure it's the right thing. Try the Force Version thing like I said above, before actually removing it.
u can also figure out precisely the one ur currently using by doing inxi -G in CLI
oh nvm, u switch to nouveau, nvm.
By sorting it shows only these 4 being installed
I don't think libnvidia is the actual driver, just some library. The driver may show up as a meta package in the description, which means that package points to install a bunch of things.
you can switch back to whatever nvidia one you were using before, reboot. then do inxi -G and it should tell you the name.
There's the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
yeah don't touch or remove anything you're unsure of.
also do a Timeshift save before any major risky stuff like this.
or try a different one in Driver Manager.
good
also have the Mint bootable USB stick available. If u get zero picture, u can boot with the stick, and run Timeshift to restore from that.
yeah but try to see if u can do 'force version'
first get name
if you can.
koo
Alright
Will come back if it acts funny
the UI of the game is already smoother
Let me test how it runs in a match
The FPS in one game is fixed thru the use of Proton
online games require me to update my video driver
This is where the installation error occurs
That is fixed, now I just need to find a way to normally run easy anticheat
are the startup errors at boot still showing?
Yes
so easy anticheat can't connect and download files when I'm using proton for some reason
I tried downloading the file mentioned in the log and the file is 0 bytes in size...
make a new ticket for a new topic. I have no idea about this.
