most likely you need proper monospace fonts
what are the proper ones?
like the command to install them
idk whats the package in arch sorry
but most likely you need to install monospace fonts
and configure them in ur text editr/terminal
or DE
the thing is i got monospace installed
probably i need to take a lok
check ur font config in ur DE
im in it now
make sure proper monospace fonts are set
if its set
then check ur text editor/terminal
yeah try it
actually
can you send me the text file
lemme see if it works here
is the fonts name noto sans mono?
yes
alright i set it
alright see if its fixed
if not check ur font config in ur text editor
you can also try in ur terminal
cat /path/to/boykisser.txt/
if it views correctly in ur terminal
then its related to ur text editor app
dosent view correctly in the terminal
can u send screenshot?
yes
okay
here
maybe this command will fix it
alright
didnt work :/
hmm
wait do i need to reboot after installing?
no need
hold on
fc-cache -f -v
this should refresh ur font cache
try setting the fonts again
check the ktexteditor and konsole settings also
after the command?
anytime fonts are installed
ok
for good measure you can also log out and login
if it doesnt fix
check the encoding
where do i check it
tools > encoding > set to utf-8
kate
always me having some damn stupid linux problems
i wanted arch since i've heard it has good customization and has many cool things, i used debian before
well damn i screwed up
my ubuntu install looks unassuming but is heavily customized already
not rlly
just a simple font config thing
try to look here for ur issue
but if it was so simple i would probably have it fixed by now
alright
i found an entry for KDE
idk if this is the issue
but maybe it is it
Font alias
There are several font aliases which represent other fonts in order that applications may use similar fonts. The most common aliases are: serif for a font of the serif type (e.g. DejaVu Serif); sans-serif for a font of the sans-serif type (e.g. DejaVu Sans); and monospace for a monospaced font (e.g. DejaVu Sans Mono). However, the fonts which these aliases represent may vary and the relationship is often not shown in font management tools, such as those found in KDE and other desktop environments.
To reverse an alias and find which font it is representing, run:
$ fc-match monospace
DejaVuSansMono.ttf: "DejaVu Sans Mono" "Book"
In this case, DejaVuSansMono.ttf is the font represented by the monospace alias.
i am reading that part right now
but the kde link sends me to a part of archwiki about kde
hmmm maybe here?
arch is really a tinkerer distro
you should know how to do this urself man if you wanna continue using arch, not saying cuz i think youre dumb but thats just how arch works!
seems someone has exactly issue as you
also on arch
Edit: install dejavu-ttf package
this is the fix according to him?
try installing dejavu-ttf
kek
sudo pacman -S dejavu-ttf
like this man
when someone tells you to install something
on arch its pacman -S
hmm
this is stupid
i used mint before and then i switched to debian and now i ended up on arch
ohhhhhh
maybe do you think archcraft will work?
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
i set it up manually when installing arch
this is the whole output
if you dont wanna give up on arch
you can wait for someone else
maybe they know
alright then i think i'll wait
hmmm
maybe try a different terminal
see if that works?
sudo pacman -S gnome-terminal
see if gnome terminal displays it right
just use cat to view the text file
if its still not right then surely its a system-wide thing
gnome terminal displays it properly, i think its an issue with alacritty
and issue with kate
for me too
works now?
also konsole dosent display it properly either
only on gnome terminal
lol true
also i used gnome when i was on debian
hooooly shit
ill just use the flatpak lol
now we narrowed it
most likely a KDE issue
but lets see if konsole displays it right for me
Works on i3 no problem
I don't either
but konsole showed it right for me
if you dont wann deal with it just use gnome or something
if you do wanna deal with it wait for someone else maybe they know a fix?
Yeah I can always wait
Also how do I remove the gnome terminal
sudo pacman -r doesn't work
Alright I'll try
idk its been 3 yrs since i used arch lol
Alright capital r worked
nice
You know what
I'll try i3 again because i3 might have switched the terminals from konsole to the gnome terminal
No
ok
Maybe if I install gnome DE it will install some things and fix it
uhhhhh
idk man
xD
I don't know sometimes Linux has some stupid issues
Its not Linux, you are using a distro that is specifically designed for tinkerers
Sure, on the justworks distros issues can arise but usually just have to fix em once and you're all good to go
But like why doesn't it work if it worked on debian
Debian is justworks
I can send a screenshot of my neofetch back when I was using debian
Less justworks than mint and ubuntu
