Can you run the 2 commands at https://gist.github.com/jeremyb31/a2bee9856d8c13f42f1835bc31bf9480 in terminal and post the termbin URL after the second command is done?
i'm just gonna show you the whole terminal
If the terminal shows an output like "unable to resolve host address..." remember to try again twice for good measure
It could also be that there has been some conflicts with Windows regarding the drivers, since if it is using Fast Startup, it kinda holds the Wi-Fi devices for itself for the next boot.
If that happens, the other OSes won't be able to use the Wi-Fi device. So, it would also be helpful to check if you have that option enabled.
connect your pc with ethernet or usb tethering first
then try again
Its off
same result
dont know how to connect it, i have an ethernet wireless cable shit i dont know what its called
ethernet wireless cable?
ethernet is just a regular cable
you just connect 1 end to your router and 1 end to your pc
and youre online
Can you use a smartphone and USB tethering?
It aint a cable
Its one of those things
wireless something, language barrier sucks
no, plugged the usb in, and nothing happens, no connection no nothing
thats a usb wifi donglwe
it should just plug in and work
but seems like your pc is having issues with wifi
If it is Android phone you have to go into phone settings/connections/mobile hotspot and tethering to enable the USB tether after connecting with USB to computer
it still doesn't work, and the few times it does it gives me an error similar to this one
only last 3 numbers are changed
You don't have USB tether setup, it is trying to get file access
what
mint specifically, windows is fine with it
The error you posted is related to accessing the files on the phone, nothing to do with USB tethering
oh
My Samsung does the same thing
also when i selected tethering instread of file share or whatever the fuck it grayed out my options to change anything
and it still didnt work
You have to do it in phone settings/connections
Does your plan allow hotspot data?
pretty sure
Then USB tether should work. Can you post some results from terminal for lsmod | grep cfg
without the phone plugged in?
Yes, for now
Hopefully one line shows cfg80211 with a couple numbers and some driver names
What about lspci -nnk | grep -iA3 net
Results for lsusb
Result for uname -r
This is some desktop computer?
yes
The easy way might be to install Linux Mint 21.3 edge version at least it has a driver for the USB device
It has a newer kernel, that will get the USB wifi to work. Not sure what the other wifi you have is, not being detected. Might have to go into Windows, Device Manager, network and see if you can find the hardware ID under properties somewhere
Did you disable Fast Boot in BIOS and hybrid shutdown in Windows?
hybrid shutdown?
i got fast boot disabled in windows and in bios but whats hybrid shutdown
Same thing as Fast Startup in Windows, https://www.majorgeeks.com/content/page/how_to_turn_fast_startup_on_or_off_in_windows_10.html
its off
can't find it
Can't find what?
So is the only wifi the USB?
yes
I figured there was an internal one. Might as well install Mint 21.3 edge. Anything that you want to keep on this Mint install?
nothing, i didn't get to do anything other than change themes cause i had no internet
I used install alongside windows boot manager, instead of creating the mint partition on my own, is that a problem?
That isn't the issue. Need that 6.5 kernel for Mint
