#Steam not starting all of a sudden

I recently installed Flatpak so I could give my applications the right permissions. I gave as much as possible to Steam. It was working fine until today when it refuses to start. I don't know what to do. I don't know why it has randomly decided not to work, and it doesn't seem to be running in the background. Steam literally does not turn on, and it's from Flathub. When I brought up Steam, Proton was mentioned a lot, so I tagged it with that. I'm sorry if it's the wrong tag.

have you tried removing and re-downloading steam?

#

that'd what i'd try todo yeah

#

flatpak remove steam* (i think) from the terminal first

vital holly
#

im not having a good time with flatpaks

#

I miss .deb just being all you needed.

#

okay the install has borked and it doesn't even recognize it's installed

#

woohoo

lucid cape
#

flatpak purge steam* ?

vital holly
#

purge is not a flatpak command

#

but it's in Games

lucid cape
#

yeah that's what i though KEKW i main windows but do some linux usuage too

vital holly
#

should i just use synaptic to install the deb

#

im guessing synaptic doesn't use flats

lucid cape
#

yeah try that, then it should just update

vital holly
#

i got it to uninstall from the menu

#

idk why flathub errors with Steam does fine with Brave / Discord

lucid cape
vital holly
#

so Steam just...does that?

lucid cape
#

seems so, flatpaks work quite well in regards to software like discord and spotify but still has a ways togo

vital holly
#

god bless Synaptic

#

glory to .deb

lucid cape
#

flatpak uninstall --delete-data -v app/com.valvesoftware.Steam/x86_64/stable this should work

vital holly
#

Discord - mic wouldn't be recognized and i had to unplug and replug it then Discord recced it again

lucid cape
#

try that before you download the synaptic version

vital holly
#

so I might just get rid of the flats

vital holly
lucid cape
#

oh? okay :) so steam should just work as intended now

vital holly
#

yeah Steam is probably gonna just run now

#

is the Synaptic version of programs worse in any way

lucid cape
#

nope, from my understanding it's basically an oldschool app store

#

still downloads new software and some stuff which isn't even on the app stores of most distros lol

vital holly
#

so is flatpak just to make things more secure

#

is that why the system exists

lucid cape
#

i think it's just something wanting to compete with snap from ubuntu lol

vital holly
#

You know what the old saying goes: it goes if it ain't broke don't fix it dabs

#

thank you for all your help

lucid cape
#

no problem, any issues just pop into the discord, have a good rest of your day/night

vital holly
#

well now it's saying it won't install certain games it was before

#

"for windows"

#

yeah certain programs won't be installable that were before.

#

so i reinstalled it with the usual thing and flatseal shows no permissions with it

#

I'm just not gonna touch flatseal anymore

#

i probably fked the permissions or something

#

okay I'm genuinely confused. Programs I used to run just fine are still being classified as "Windows Only"

#

when they're not.

#

Okay, correction: now using actual flathub again. But I don't get it, you said it was the same, but different programs don't work in diff pkg versions

#

and now it won't run through flathub at all

#

@lucid cape help

#

i figured it out, I messed with the flatseal stuff too much

#

I just need to not touch it
