dont have it encrypt your drive ever in this upcoming process!!
shizz a real pain to recover encrypted drives
The hp loading screen
idk give time
K
watch the hard drive light now andthen for activity
It's stuck on the screen, I may do this tommorow cause I'm very tired
Gn
@earnest tinsel what's the issue with this?
hmmm
i have no idea.. i hope ur drive didnt come loose
try it again, fit it to a different USB port that isnt as worn
or try the Win10 iso.
Nope
Now I need this?
The ventoy drive doesn't have these drivers
um, try to skip past that
One second, had to get away from my laptop
idk if u have some nvidia card maybe
Will be back on 5 mind
that could be why it's complaining
Yes ,one of my gpus is nvidia
yeah tyt.. just skip past it for now if poss.
I cant
This is required
does it give info on what drivers exactly?
if it's nvidia, use ur other usb drive to get the driver files on ur old PC, keep them in a folder, then use the Browse button in the Win 11 installer
No
Every folder doesn't have the drivers
It won't even tell me which I need
Just something for windows install media
no i meant as an example get nvidia from the website (you'll need to know ur exact GPU model)
I know th model
it's saying u can remove the Windows DVD from the tray to put in some other driver DVD.. in ur case, just plug another usb drive with the (what i suspect - would be the nvidia package)
I also have an Intel gpu
it seems to be able to write to the internal SSD so i dont think it's that
those drivers are generic and on the Microsoft Windows DVD / iso
So I'll download the nvidia driver and get back to u
or google that message, see what others have said
@earnest tinsel the nvidia driver was a no go
I think it needs install media
That ain't it either
Idk then
Should I instead just install Linux and then use that to reinstall windows?
I have my data back up on the drive now so...
u cant reinstall from linux except into a virtual machine software
in ur case i just thought of something
u can go to ur old pc, make a folder on the backup usb stick called WINDOWS11
Then use Windows 10's capability to mount the win 11 iso u downloaded and copy it fully (as in extracted/mounted) to the WINDOWS11 folder on the big usb.
then try again, use the ventoy stick to install, but when it asks for drivers, u give it the source of the win11 folder on the other usb stick
Others I've helped re: Windows, it all worked fully just from ventoy. Your case, maybe cuz of a video card, or optane ssd or heck knows what, it is buggin' for more
The big usb has my back up files, should I move them to the big pc?
u may if u wish, but i was just saying to make a folder alongside them
and by big pc, u mean the old pc i figure
- if Windows still refuses to install that way, then use a fresh usb drive, or empty your 32 GB one, and either: use the microsoft website usb media maker thing for the iso, OR , use RUFUS program to etch an iso, but press Alt+E in rufus FIRST to put it to UEFI mode before giving it the iso.
I dont have much time today left so this is probably for tommrow
do you happen to have NVME M.2 - hard drive in your laptop ? and is it a brand new computer ?
It's a 5 year old hp laptop
but seems that Windows, does not detect your HDD/SSD/NVME
@earnest tinsel I finnaly managed to install Linux mint
So much trial and error
Wanna say thanks again for the help!
And to anyone else that helped as well
oh nice to hear that, and back from you 🙂
wow I just read up to refresh. this was a long one. A lot of it was trying to fix Windows.
Yep
Windows refused to work
It couldn't even detect my hard drive but linux eventually worked
Now I have to fiddle with it a bit
Have to find a way to use my tp link chip for 5ghz internet
check with inxi -N
for what WiFi generation it supports
I'm gonna guess the computer's wifi card will autotune to both frequencies. The router however, may need to be explicitly set
Nah, the computers wifi card can only read 2g
I need the fast download speeds
spat out this result
Network:
Device-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet
driver: r8169
Device-2: Realtek RTL8723DE 802.11b/g/n PCIe Adapter driver: rtw_8723de
Device-3: TP-Link AC600 wireless Realtek RTL8811AU [Archer T2U Nano]
type: USB driver: rtl88XXau
i installed a driver for the chip already but it wont detect wifi
