#Error with shader model 3.0

ello maybe this can help you
It seems you are encountering an issue where newer games are not launching due to a missing Shader Model 3.0 requirement. This is likely caused by an incompatibility between your graphics drivers and the game's requirements. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:
-
Update your graphics drivers to the latest version. Make sure you are using the official drivers from AMD or NVIDIA, not third-party versions. Reinstalling the drivers may help resolve any missing components[4].
-
Check if your graphics card supports Shader Model 3.0. Older cards may not meet this requirement for newer games. You can look up the specifications of your GPU to confirm its support for Shader Model 3.0[4].
-
Try using a different version of Proton. Experimental versions may have issues with certain games. Switch to a stable version like Proton 7.0 or 5.13 and see if that resolves the problem[1][2].
-
Ensure you have the necessary 32-bit libraries installed. Some games require 32-bit dependencies that may be missing. Install the required packages using your package manager, such as
sudo apt install lib32gcc-s1on Ubuntu[3]. -
Delete the game's Wine prefix and shader cache. Removing the existing prefix and letting Proton recreate it may fix any corrupted files. You can find the prefix in
~/.steam/root/steamapps/compatdata/[game_id][2]. -
As a last resort, try running the game with the
PROTON_LOG=1environment variable. This will generate a detailed log file that may provide more information about the specific error. You can then share the log with the Proton community for further assistance[1].
If none of these steps work, the issue may be specific to the game or your hardware configuration. You can check the game's ProtonDB page to see if others have reported similar problems and any workarounds. If the issue persists, consider contacting the game's developer or the Proton community for further support.
I had the same problem on Take on Helicopters technically, but it was more of a proton thing
Alright, what is the integrated in cpu?
Give me a time, i'll search it
Dont worry, I will do the impossible to make it fix
Actually, I have an idea on how to fix it
BaseModel=0, put that on steam's initiation commands (on startup commands on properties)
Also try changing it to Vulkan or OpenGL
It basically lets you insert custom commands, usually needed for games that ran badly or dont even run
Try putting the thing I sent on Steam's Properties Startup Commands
VK_INSTANCE_LAYERS=VK_LAYER_KHRONOS_validation
Also try this
If basemodel doesnt work, try the VK model
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Yeah
Try running these 3 commands, if one doesnt work, try another
This
And this, try each other
Try the other one
Yeah, thats what I used on Take on Helicopters on a Intel I5-3330
Mhm, try it
If it doesnt crash on the start, it means it worked
Also remember to run on low graphics
Deo gratias
Did it loaded?
Damn, I never though the command I got would be so powerful ^^'
Tell me if it loads, remember, its in a compatibility layer
So dont expect it to work much like on Windows
Yeah
I hope it manages to launch
Got it
What is the crash?
Alright, I'll do a search
@paper mortar I have an idea, try running the same command I gave you that made FS19 Work on the Steam
NIIIIIICCCCEEEEEE
Alright heh :'D
I dont think that will do much difference, but if you want
Did it worked?
But FS19 got into the ingleplayer?
lmad
Yeah, Its in a compatibility layer
I use KDE, but I am still a beginner y'know
I runned between arch-based distros, but never Arch linux itself
Nowadays I am in Solus, as its good for home computing
I Ran into Mint, Zorin, Fedora, RegataOS, Big Linux
Shit, lets ry something else
Try it
I will update my system, if you are able to wait a bit
@paper mortar Sorry, I returned now
Finding a solution rn
PROTON_USE_WINED3D @paper mortar
@paper mortar PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% try this
Proton 5.0-GE-1: @paper mortar Also this, you might need this version
As it runs The Sims 4 pretty well on Proton
Try getting Proton 5.0, and then make that game only run with Proton 5.0 version
Sure
Remember, natively, your GPU doesnt support The Sims 4
As it requires by default DirectX12
What you're trying to do is emulate DirectX12 through Proton
Most modern games now require DirectX12, including FS19
What is the DirectX it supports?
I meant the game, but I know where it is getting
Shit...
Alright
Got it
Try it again
Alright
I would reccomend using X11, I dont think that really matters
As I've been using X11
Oh well, so there's no way
I dont think that makes a huge difference either way
Let me see if it breaks
Wayland is broken by design
A crash in the window manager takes down all running applications.
You cannot run applications as root.
You cannot do a lot of things that you can do in Xorg by design.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% this and install Proton 5.0-GE-1:
Yeah, maybe you can try X11
I find X11 way stabler and things, also thats what I've been using
I never got the wayland hype
Yeah
Try installing it, and then make The Sims 4 start with it
Properties and Compatibility
I dont think so, but you can try with the PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
As it seems to emulate DirectX12, but dont expect solid 60 fps
Nice
Be careful with disk space
Yeah
Properties on The Sims 4
And then Compatibility, make it run with Proton 5
Did it run atleast?
Well shit
Did you tried Lutris?
I would reccomend Lutris at this point
Lutris might have Steam connection
Lutris is a video game preservation platform
Sure
Does it have proton?
Nice
Try putting what I sent you
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Let me think on something else
WINEPREFIX=$ HEROIC_PROTON=1 %command%. @paper mortar
Here we go
Try removing the %command%
What is below the table?
/usr/bin/proton run %game_exe%
I think that might fix it I hope
''In "Launch Options", select "Custom" and add the following command: /usr/bin/proton run %game_exe%''
Yeah, I think
It requires shader model 6.0, which is just far behind what your GPU can support
Neither Mesa, neither Proton can do anything
Your GPU does not support Vulkan
I think its a updated version of your GPU
Alright, let me try something else to solve this
There's no hope.
Heroic Game Launcher is not possible, as you might need to edit files in the game that might make 99% chance of failing higher
Maybe if it was Steam, but that would be throwing money to buy a thing that you own
Yeah
Try running FS19 with the new vram
@paper mortar Anything else?
Got it
Thanks for letting me help
Also, dont give trolls attention, and neither listen to elitist users, you are free to use any distro you want
Yeah, Valve has native linux games
I prefer Solus cuz its good for home computing
But I would use ElementaryOS too, I just need Firefox/Brave for daily tasking and Steam/.deb/Flatpak
Never listen to elitist users, as all they want is their favourite distro (arch linux) to become popular, and shame you for using a beginner/intermediare distro
I like it too
Mhm
Solus was a bit of pain of a neck to get it working
I still have PTSD of updating this thing
But yeah, feel free to pick any distro you like
Yeah, 5.15 seems to be stabler
Wdym black?
Let me try to help, hang in
@paper mortar Did you remapped the controls?
Shit
PROTON_USE_VULKAN=1 %command%, PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%. @paper mortar put these 2 commands together
-PROTON_USE_VULKAN=1 %command% -PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Copy that
Uhh no
Yeah, there is no Vulkan on GPU
You have Vulkan installed, but no Vulkan supported
I really dont know what to do
Do you have others games that you can play?
Minecraft, and like 80 - 85% of Steam games are running with Proton, also a reccomendation would check protondb to see whats running good or bad to run
Also, you need a somewhat decent hardware to run these games
You cant just use an really old/mediocre NVidia and try to run it
I would reccomend also doing a upgrade on the hardware of the laptop
And get an AMD card
Dont interrupt please
If you arent going to help any way, then just quit it
@paper mortar Can I suggest you something?
What are the types of games you play the most?
Valve games seems to be a bit better to run through Linux without proton as mostly are native
But you should worry with Triple A multiplayer games
As these have agressive and intrusive anti-cheat
I would reccomend 2 things if you are able to keep up
- Update the laptop's hardware, if its ever possible, you can salvage the old pieces for an work/school laptop/pc
- Avoid games that are multiplayer-focused/AAA games/anti-cheat games
Its really sad that you just pay like 40 dollars for a game (which is 300 reais) only to it not work on the system that you use
Farming Simulator 19 has Gold on protondb, so upgrade your hardware if extremely needed
Shit
Yeah, that seems a problem with Mint or the laptop distro
I guess it makes some differences
Did you installed from package manager?
Try installing from package manager/system default with the distro store
Yeah, it gives a few bugs
I think thats a hardware issue, like
I had luck of making Take on Helicopters working
And it was the same command that we used to help with the Farming Simulator
@paper mortar Your system has Vulkan, but your GPU doesnt have Vulkan
Even though Linux makes miracles and adds vulkans to Intel cpus that have not in Windows
Yeah
Did you enabled Proton?
