Check this manual from MX, another distro, but has a great glossary to learn linux terms. and overall a good read that applies to Mint also
For adding (and even removing) software, the preferred methods are:
- use the Software Manager to search stuff
- use the Synaptic Package manager to find nitty gritty stuff that regular software manager can't find.
- use official website .deb files if the first two can't give you what you need
- avoid Flatpak unless desperate (it takes a ton of space)
Set up and take Timeshift snapshot backups (Timeshift is a program included with Mint) as it can really save your butt when stuff goes very wrong.
Explore the Themes tool including its Add/Remove feature that lets you easily install more from online.
Explore the "Disks" app to get familiar with your disk drives, and how linux names them as devices.

People coming from windows also think you need an anti-virus, but you don't need one on linux.
*there are still viruses on linux, but they're much less common. As long as you use common sense, you should be good
It's helpful to use an adblocker
i don't think antivirus is necessary even on windows
