1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
what graphics card do you have?
4070
@pure jackal Do you have that display configuration app open still?
I don't understand why it won't like detect your double monitor
if you do... the you should be able to click on the display and drag it from covering the second display..
do you have the closed source nvidia graphics drivers installed? if not it might be the problem for all of this graphics problems, agian if that's not the case investegate the link i sent
whats a nouveau im super new to linux
recommended option go go
i tried all the options on the driver manger
trashy open source nvidia driver
do you know if secure boot is enabled in your bios settings?
show me what that looks like
send a screenshot
i was using the other one but it switched!
#1243348509885730867 message
i dont know
yeah do the firest option there that says (reccomended)
for the graphics drivers
1 is a laptop monitor?
wait its working now!
your welcome
nope, im on a desctop
if you dont care about it, try going into your bios boot settings, and turn it off
if you meed more help ask
that might fix your monitor problem
not the monitor but like the driver stuff
although if its working now, dont worry about it
ah ok but I srsly think it was like ur monitor NOT being connected properly to your GPU
me too!
might be this
ye
but it boots onto the other monitor when the m,ain on is unpluged
that's not an issue rly
also in steam enable proton play so you can play all your favorite windows games with no hasle https://www.howtogeek.com/738967/how-to-use-steams-proton-to-play-windows-games-on-linux/
oh and when you switch drivers, make sure you reboot your computer now
it was working
yeah and also your disk issue where is that
hold on let me restard (doin that now!)
your disk error issue
maybe you have to just completely reinstall steam?
Just my main drive
I'll try that
But then like there are 80hb of games that I can't play
And I need to install them again
you wont have to reinstall them nah
also if you want games that werent programed for linux special enable steam's proton (https://www.howtogeek.com/738967/how-to-use-steams-proton-to-play-windows-games-on-linux/)
just steam
you can probably play many more if you enabkle proton
i had proton on
oh sorry
thought you didn't because of the other problems, thought you were more of a begineer
I mean u HAVE to have proton on if you want to play windows games on your linux system
path error I bet
sudo apt purge steam
https://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/0/1727575977578816536/ this forum looks helpful, if you still cant install it the have many solutions for this bug here
I didn't know it could have like a dependency error
did that!
now it's fully gone
me and linux are cursed i swear
how do i install steam
the package mantger version doesnt dected my 8tb hdd
- go to steam homepage & follow their guide
or - go to package manager and install via flathub
this is why i really don't like debian or ubuntu based distros, apt is horrible as a package manager and they try to appeal to beginners but never teach them linux so they become lost in their own system
sudo apt install steam
fedora user?
arch
based
it's either not plugged correctly or you have to do some special stuff i'm not thinking about right now
with your gpu and stuff
I think either connection issue OR some driver issue
i dont think its a conection issue
i think driver is less likely though
and like i cant even cahnge the reffers rate on my main
its ment to be 165 hz but its locked at 89. somehtuong
what's your monitors name?
I also think @pure jackal connected his cable to his motherboard rather than the slots on his GPU
pleasse have more confidence in me then that
that means another package is being installed or wants you to use sudo
steam install doing something wakky
so make sure nothing else is currently being installed
try changing the cable
okay i will
and run as root like this "sudo su (enter) then apt install steam"
watch the video and tell me some thing crazy is not going on
i know its long bhut it it probes the monitor stuff
you have both plugged in and on right?
i tried to but im i have no idea bout comand prompt
dude, all im asking you to do is to type exactly what it said which was you must manually run sudo dpkg --configure -a to fix the problem
good
yeah usally when it says nothing that's a good thing
but it wont open now
did you try running the command steam in your terminal
omg whoa i didnt know ytou could do that
yeah typing the package name in a terminal usually works to start it up
i was just looking for it in the search thing
but like im not cray right? my monitors are doing somehting silly
right???
yeah thats the problem!
and it works on windows?
you tried kubuntu
that was my first distro
but i don't think i'll ever revisit it
other distros are better
anyway enough yapping let me help you
i did! i loved it but like i couldnt fifure out appimage files and like i tried all the perm stuff and it didnt work
https://github.com/TheAssassin/AppImageLauncher this always fixes all the app image problems for me
ehhh tahnsk for the help but i should be fine now
just make it executable first and use this and you'll have no problems
t5he issue is the monitors and steam
does steam work now?
what do they say
why don't you just use kubuntu man
this is giving me a hard time and i'm supposed to be the scholar
i was but it was even worse then this and like i want too
but like i cant even flash a new usb
becaus i cant find a tool for it, ive been trying to in the back ground
because this is way to hard x33
just use balena etcher
download the appimage and your good
okay ill try that
whyy is linux so hardd im going back to kubuntu x3
cause steam worked on that
and monitors worked on that
well i'll be honest
the reason linux so hard is not because it's linux's fault
to put it bluntly it's always your fault
never the computers
i know dont worry silly
but like what am i doing wrongg!??!?!' why does team hate me and why does it not let me have 2 monitors at once
if you learn how to use the terminal, linux history and how to use apt you'll have way less problems
and how to use sudo during the correct times
idk i don't use linux mint
other distros are better
i just like the community
only reason i used it because it was working fine on my laptop
and like since kubuntu didnt work i just though "oh my laptop and steam woorks good so like linux mint must be great"
right click on the appimage click options and make it run as a executable
yay!
if that still doesn't work use this
btw installing windows wont work
im waitng for kubuntu
you need a special tool to install windows on linux
cause i formatted my drive to ext4 or something?
dude
i dont know just guessing x3
anyway its not what im doing so who cares windoes sucks
WHY DID YOU NOT LEARN ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT LINUX BEFORE USING IT
YOU ARE GOING TO BE LOST AS HELL
IN YOUR OWN COMPUTER
because it was going fibe on my laptop for 2 months!
and i was using it and it was chill i am sorry
2 months is nothing
i know im sorry
i've been using linux for 2 years
i just needed to get rid of windows
there's people here that have used linux for 20 years
when i'm in my thirties i'm going to be using linux for longer than 20
anyway
use this tool for windows https://github.com/WoeUSB/WoeUSB
i do prefere plasma to gnome, they are the desktop enviroments right?
yes
i actually need web usb for school
and ask questions after reading
okay\
let me know if you have problems once kubuntu is done
you most likely will just letting you know
this is the linux journey
when you first installed your were at the highest point, with steam you were at there is more, now you are at you may never understand
you'll stay there for like 3 months to a yeat before you get to the last point
no problem
linux is a big hobby of mine
i'm trying to get into programming but im at the "i may never understand this" phase
hopefully it getting bettter!
@pure jackal i know this is probably old, but did you ever try checking and disabling secure boot?
i did not try that
oh well
thats only probable if your motherboard is older then 2012
i apologize for ae's somewhat toxic behavior regarding your knowledge of linux
nahhh they were nice dont worry
which one are you trying to open specifically?
are you getting an error when you try to run it?
nope, its just asking if im sure i want to exucute it and then nothing happens
same with all app images
are you still on mint or did you switch to kubuntu?
i swapped to kubuntu
alright thanks
could you try running sudo apt install libfuse2? this would install a library that you need, if its missing
and then, do you know how to give a file executable permissions?
youll have to do that for the appimages
yeah i did that
put sudo in front of the second command
that will make the command root that its complaining about, instead of running as roccothebucket
okay i installed it
can you run appimages now?
but app imahe wont open ahfhhfasf
can you check that you downloaded the 64-bit versions?
did you try to install libfuse2 after you ran --fix-broken install?
i did do that yes
yeah thats okayy!! thank you for the hel^^
try creating a seperate thread though to keep it clean
okay i will!
if nothing works, i can tell you that personally i use prism launcher for my modded minecraft stuff
i can try that!
how would i insall that x3
there should be a snap for it in the store if you wanna use that
lol i said snap not flatpak
different package managers
