I booted off a USB with Linux Mint Cinnamon 21.3 on it, figuring I'd test it out before swapping to the operating system.

However, wifi options didn't appear. I'm pretty rusty on linux, but did a little research and managed to find out that it did see a "wlan", which was enabled, but it didn't seem to be able to find the card when I did "lspci".

Tethered connection via phone works fine.
Wired connection appears, but untested-- I figured that with tethered connection working and wired connection showing on the Network window, this probably wasn't the issue.

I tried using "compatibility mode", too, but this just turned my touchpad off.

Hardware:
Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16ARX8
Realtek 8852CE Wifi 6E PCI-E NIC-- I

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Start up Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16ARX8 using Linux Mint Cinnamon 21.3 on a USB
  2. Choose the first option.

Running 21.3 Cinnamon Edge now, and it's pretty inconsistent-- sometimes the wifi turns off and I have to restart the entire computer to get it on again.

Guaranteed to happen if I close the laptop, but also sometimes just happens at random.

Also lots of short wifi turning off?

Might also have to echo "options rtw89_pci disable_aspm_l1=y disable_aspm_l1ss=y"|sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtw89.conf

mmm, can't say I really understood that

Is Linux Mint running off an older kernal and I'm better off switching to another distro or getting different wifi reciever for it, basically?

okay, so running any distro of linux with that realtek wifi is not ideal, and there's no full fix for it?

Might not be until Lenovo/HP fix their BIOS

...feel like I shouldn't be holding my breath on that one.

Do you know if the Lenovo bios cause other issues with Linux, or is it just the wifi?

#

...would even running a wireless usb not fix it, for that matter?
