so in the folder with the mint iso
if you hold shift and right click
there should be an option like "open in powershell" or "open in terminal"
yup
yeah we'll need one
On Windows, the hash check can be done like this: https://windowsreport.com/checksum-on-windows/
I am not sure we need one, though.
okay
one second i at some point deleted the iso
oof
changed the file name
yup
for the edition of mint you downloaded you wanna make sure it matches
you can send them both here and i can check or you can

bca4e67799f0fb10d1bd09f7536a4113 (iso hash)
i think they are a "lil" differnt
oof i'd download from another mirror
alr
They are different because you created an MD5 hash, while the website offers an sha256 one. Different algorithms. Either use the additional software from behind the link I shared, or do not bother.
how didnt i notice
Easy to overlook. The length gave it away, though.
also why am i checking the iso hash?
its possible that files can be damaged/corrupted
ah
To make sure the file is not corrupted. I do not think the file is corrupted, so not terribly important. Just get Balena or Ventoy and write that ISO to your medium again.
yeah i don't think it is either
alrighty
i ran md5sum on my mint iso i have downloaded and it matches yours
https://etcher.balena.io/ here is the site for balena etcher
A cross-platform tool to flash OS images onto SD cards and USB drives safely and easily. Free and open source for makers around the world.
balena makes this real easy just pick the drive then select the iso and press the button
ensure you pick the right one
why didnt i sue this to start with 😭
well i dont really want to sue them id prefer to use it
lol
why didnt i use this first
but ty for the help!!! ill most likley comeback but we will see
okay
the drive used to have 32gb of storage why has it shrank to 5mb?
it still has its 32gb
i would prefer to use all of the 32gb on linux tho
what do you mean?
can i only use 1.4mb on my mint or does it use up the 32gb overtime?
normally after installing linux it's suggested to keep the usb incase things go wrong
i probably wouldnt put random files on there
also is this all i need for it cause this seems a little to small
go back to the root of it (so click "USB Drive (D:)"
mhm?
The Mint ISO mimics a DVD, that is why the medium now thinks it is a DVD. If you want to still have the rest of your medium available for other things, Ventoy is the tool to use. Which means re-flashing with that.
should i try booting in it
You could. It should work in this state.
im on the mint logo
awesome
its the furthest ive gotten today
i hope it all goes well
depending on your usb the speeds could be terrible
tysm!!!!
Good luck setting it up.
ive just went through the installation inside of linux its just finishing up now ty you both for your patience!
np
this is a screwball Etcher bug
ah alr
it is bc of etcher
happened to me as well and i was scared asf
but once u r in linux just format it and u get ur 32 gb back
or 32 GB in their case
damn
32???
idk, i actually decided to re flash my usb, having a live linux usb just in case is way more valuable than 8 gb (in their case 32)
sooo, what do u think about mint? are u liking it so far?
you can also use UUI - Universal USB Installer (which is ventoy-powered) and allows files to be added later to a separate partition.
its very easy and simple to use compared to windows
ie - if the iso takes up 2.8 GB out of the total 32 GB, then u'd still have an empty partition UUI would leave you with ~29 GB free
yeah and (at least for my pc) it was way better since it was soo shitty
yeahh i love it
have u checked out the desktop backgrounds?
they are so cool
yeah, still it is better to have an usb dedicated to just being a live usb
or like, recovery one
yeah true. pick up a 3 pack of USB's on sale 😛
btw whats the bare minimum for a live usb in mint? 6gb?
i used an 8gb bc i thought it would need 8, like other oses out there (like windows)
last i checked, the ISO is only 2.8 GB. so i guess even a 4GB stick would suffice
oh i see
it's compressed data.. the installed version takes up a lot more
how come this is so lightweight and looks way better tha windows, is this magic or what
not the most lightweight out there, but a lot in comparasion to like 8.1
yeah ik that, but a live usb can get u out of trouble, a real lifesaver
well idk should prob. leave the chat for another channel
yeah
anyways, good luck using mint @obtuse peak
