#new to mint and linux in general

The battery thing, Linux won't help at all, that sounds like it is dead. Overheating, I mean Linux is less resource intensive, but your PC shouldn't be overheating to begin with so something is wrong
oh i see, yeah, makes sense
How comfortable are you working with hardware?
idk, 50/50, i'm scared of breaking something, but i know a lil bit abt it
That's me too with laptops, I'm always nervous with them, only did work on one once. I could maybe aid you in determining what specifically is overheating, if you wanted to attempt to fix it yourself (might mean replacing a CPU for example, idk), or otherwise I'd consider taking it to a shop and seeing if they can figure out the issue.
I don't think linux is going to help this, although linux is great and worth looking into if you're interested in it. But I'd recommend figuring out the hardware problems first
First thing first: Does the fan spin? Can you see dust in the vents? Canned air works wonders.
thank you a lot, i'll see the problem, a friend told me the battery is completely dead xd
^ good advice
also check the fans, dissasembly it and do a full clean of it's insides, sounds like something is blocking the fans
taht happened to me with my old laptop, opened it up and found a lotta dust and such, like what you find on https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupportgore

You will cringe to the brink of passing out after a few minutes looking at this subreddit. DO NOT POST HERE ASKING FOR TECH SUPPORT
so a deep clean should help. then replace the battery
then, you may like to use mint to have a less resource intensive OS
if you have zero idea about how to proceed with the hardware mantainance, ask a local tech support
it may help a tiny bit with overheating, especially as you can fine-tune it to stay lightweight, but all of which you described sounds more like a hardware issue
