#Origins of Colosseum spectators

Stumbled upon a theory while looking through old Reddit threads. The idea is that the Colosseum spectators are more primal forms of the bugs of Hallownest. So basically what the modern day bugs of Hallownest might have looked like before the Pale King arrived. We can tell from the Hunter's Journal that Hallownest's bugs evolved to be weaker than they once were.

Wandering Husk:

These "civilised" bugs of Hallownest were weak in life and now they are equally weak in death. Send them back into the dirt they were born in!

Leaping Husk:

The bugs of old Hallownest did not hunt their own food, they had it brought to them. That's why they were so weak. That's why their kingdom crumbled into dust and faded away!

Husk Warrior:

Softened by generations of luxury, these bugs lack claws or armour or venom. Those who wish to protect themselves are forced to fashion weapons from stone, ore or shell.

Gluttonous Husk:

As these bugs became wealthier they hunted less and consumed more, eventually taking on a grotesque shape not unlike over-ripe fruit.

Contrast that with the Primal Aspid, which shows us what the more ancient form of the Aspid Hunter looked like.

Wilder, ancestral form of the Aspid. Once thought extinct, they have reappeared at the edges of the world.

This theory also contends that Eternal Emilitia was "cast out" by her fellow High Society members due to her more primal looking horned head, a reminder of these bugs' more beastly origins.

You've no doubt sensed my affluence. You're right to guess, I'm renowned amongst the upper caste of Hallownest.
...Well I was... once, until those cretins cast me out.

Could these bugs be an ancient branch from somewhere in the evolutionarily chain?

#

Emilitia for reference

#

I think this is plausible. Perhaps the kingdoms edge just has some weird preservation abilities which might be why these ancient bugs live there

#

Maybe the cast off shell did something to draw in these ancient bugs

#

Ohhhh yeah this theory ! I've seen it before, about Emilitia so obvious top tier but iirc there was some confusion about Xero ?
Anyway it might make sense of the coloseum spectators and Emilitia being fine and seemingly not needing food or whatever in some way, just not sure which.

I don't think being old gives you infection immunity.

the bug on the left in the pic deso look like the corpses seen at the edge of the kingdom, in howling cliffs

I think it's more that they have what they want, fighting.
Emilitia also has what they want, revenge.

Cornifer remarks about how the city might have been afraid to build out into Kingdom's Edge

Judging by this wall, the city's folk seemed hesitant to build further into these caverns. I wonder what kept them at bay?

Unforuately, I don't think we get any more dialogue on what makes Kingdom's Edge so unique, maybe it really is just the Wyrm corpse doing something. There is a lot of ash everywhere.

warped tusk
#

does the ash glow?

No one mentions it glowing, but it might.

They certainly aren't infected

#

I think the mask maker might have made them masks

#

The masks on the table and on the ground look like the ones the colloseum bugs are wearing

They give intelligence tho

Raw intelligence

Also the bug corpses at the end of the howling peaks, the dead ones look like the colloseum spectators

It looks identical

To the one in the hot spring

That one lost its mind leaving hallownest

Yeah

Maybe they aren't using masks

It does look like it tho

yes compared to like the PK and the "lord of the colosseum" it looks like they have masks(you can see the curvature of the heads of the PK and the "lord"

but that may not count because just look at maskmaker

I think the lord fool is a wyrm but everyone tells me that the creature is too small

I find it frustrating because the theories that debunk me are speculative and focus on tiny details that could be accidentally mistaken for just scenery

The Wyrms were ancient beings who pulled bugs into their thrall.[1][2] They were larger than Bardoon, though they had fewer limbs. -from wiki

The Wyrms were ancient beings who pulled bugs into their thrall. They were larger than Bardoon, though they had fewer limbs. They also had the ability of foresight, meaning that they could predict the future to some extent. One of these Wyrms died in Kingdom's Edge, transforming into the Pale King. Doesn't mean 100 percent that it is a wyrm tho

The bugs could be more primal form since one of the lore tablets I think in kings pass or maybe it's the hallownest elegy states "a world gave to bug and beast

#

So two different types of bugs in hallownest

elder thorn
#

The wording pretty clearly shows the "second type of bugs" according to you aren't called "bugs" feelsmossman

Herrah is called a beast, I assume most people who aren't considered bugs are called beasts, like an "other" category. I can't prove it tho.

The spectators look so generic, but we don't see any of them as husks

why don't the spectators get infected anyway?

that part makes no sense

besides the beast thing that the god tamer has seems infected

and some enemies that we fight are infected as well

like the two furious vengeflies in trial of the fool
