5x - [( x + 1) - 2 (x + 3)] = 2 (8 + x) - [(6 + x) - 5x]

okay, it helps to clear in pieces

#

lets do left hand side first

lapis sable
#

i'm all ears

mystic gull
#

5x - [(x + 1) - 2(x + 3)]

#

even in that, check
(x + 1) - 2(x + 3)

Can you simplify that?

#

forget the big scary exp now
just focus on (x + 1) - 2(x + 3) righ tnow

#

can you simplify it?

lapis sable
#

yeah yeah

mystic gull
#

simplify that

lapis sable
#

umm

#

x + 4 - 2?

#

@mystic gull

#

2x?

#

idk

mystic gull
#

oh, no
you know 2(x + 3) = 2x + 6?

#

(basically whenever you see a multiplier with a bracket, just multiply each term like that)

lapis sable
#

yeah forgot about that

#

now after this what is it we gotta do

mystic gull
#

Okay nevermind
Let me do left hand side for you so that you understand what I did
then you will solve the right hand side

cool?

#

5x - [(x + 1) - 2(x + 3)]
see that inner bracket: (x + 1) - 2(x + 3)
We know that -2(x + 3) = -2x - 6 (we are multiplying by -2, so its negative)
so the inner expression is x + 1 - 2x - 6. Simplifying gives -x - 5

so this 5x - [(x + 1) - 2(x + 3)]
actually equals 5x - [-x - 5]
distributing negative: 5x + x + 5 = 6x + 5

You see how I simplified this side?
If you get it, try doing the other side. If not, ask me questions

mystic gull
#

are you there? have any doubts about my approach?

@mystic gull Today I had my maths test (spoiler: I suck at maths, so don't expect anything good). I'll tell you the results sooner or later. Let's see how much you helped me
