trying to understand solving equations with fractions like the images I have provided, but some of the instructions on how to solve it are very different from each other. The first photo I attached has a confusing process as it differs from the process that was given to me on my pearson math practice, site the second photo. The third photo is from my pearson math practice and the process is on the 4th photo. My problem is that the process in the first photo combines the fractions while the third photo from the pearson math practice does not. Does it matter whether I combine the fractions? Because the pearson math practice did not do such a thing and ended up with the correct results.

That does not matter
what the upper image did is transitivity and combining before multiplying
lower image just multipled by 42 directly and used distributitivty

#

those are bothusing distributivity

ah

#

so if i use both it still ends up the same

halcyon cargo
#

yes, ofc
the 1st one is just taking 1/42 as common factor

#

2nd one doesnt. it just multiplies directly
