2pik+pi/3 , 2pik +2pi/3 k is any integer
...I know. Please answer the question I asked.
...did you check?
thats what my software told me
"Software"?
...is that a calculator?
Because when I say "check", I mean "by plugging in to the equation".
no its my homework website
oh. i mean im 100% sure thats the correct answer
because its the solution that my homework website gave me
...homework websites can make mistakes.
the homework website is the same website that is assigning me homework
So what?
like its what my teacher uses to give me homework
So what?
why is it not the correct answer
I'm not saying it's not the correct answer, I'm saying you haven't checked that it is.
okay im not really sure how to respond to that
i tried the problem already and i got something else
When Euclid proved the fundamental theorem of arithmetic, did he make sure he got it right by checking an answer key?
i am not euclid. i did the problem i just need to see what i did wrong
The point is, if you want to learn and understand math, you need to be able to work on it independently. You need to never take anyone's word for anything. You need to always seek the proof.
What is the proof that some value is a solution to some equation?
dude im just trying to pass my exam im not a math major
What I'm hearing is that you don't actually want to learn math, in which case I can't help you, because I teach math.
Taking the answer key's word for it instead of checking the answer for yourself is one thing you're doing wrong.
i mean i did the problem
I have seen no evidence of that.
why cant i trust the answer key
because i gave you the wrong answer
i need to figure out why my wrong answer is wrong
Because answer keys can be wrong. "The answer key says so" is not a proof.
See, you understand this intuitively. You understand that your answer disagrees with the answer key, and therefore assuming the answer key is correct you understand this to mean that you did something wrong.
You made a mistake.
Answer key authors can also make mistakes.
You need to check that possibility.
okay but this is basic trig chances are the answer key is right
THIS IS MATH. WE DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT "CHANCES". WE GIVE A FUCK ABOUT PROOF.
dude im just trying to pass my trig exam
Which you aren't going to do by being lazy.
