Note that the number of dots increases by a constant amount each time. So, what kind of sequence is it?
continuous?
No.
I think I have an answer to the question, but it might be more helpful for you to step through it rather than getting the answer directly.
LordDarpinger asked a good question, although I am not good enough to answer what kind of sequence it is, so I will rephrase it a bit:
-
Ask yourself what is constantly there, unchanging in each pattern.
-
After you figure that out, ask yourself what changes from one pattern to the next.
When you figure this out, try to put together a formula that expresses the number of dots as a function of n.
For example, imagine a similar scenario where there are 2 dots in the first pattern, 4 in the second and 6 in the third.
In that case we would get:
dots = 2n
Hope that makes sense!
Yeah, that's a pretty good approach if you ||don't remember the general formula for a term of an arithmetic progression.||
Ah, that makes sense. I had to google the term, and while I am not familiar with it (I'm 13) I think we have done similar things in math class. Given that I learn math in Swedish means it could be called something else in my language 🙂
Ah, I see, fair enough. English isn't my native language, either.
What do you start with?

@honest cairn Just as a reminder, you are a helper mod, so if you see a duplicated post, wrongful behavior, etc., you can take action.
Oh, was there one of those? Sorry, didn't notice.
(It came from OP, they duplicated a thread.)
Oh, ok, sorry about that.
