Help for a coding assignment

I’ve been trying to figure out how 64% was obtained for the last few hours and made no progress, I tried dividing 3 by 15, but I’ve gotten nowhere please help, the assignment deadline is tomorrow morning and I’m trying to figure out the mathematical formula for this so I can code it into python

how have you tried to calculate the percentage?

And it doesn’t match up to 64%

I divided 15 by 3

Then after that I wasn’t sure how to progress onwards

Try finding the area all the edge pieces

Divided by the area of the whole cake

Ah that's just 4(s/3)-4

Where s is the side lengths of the cake

s/3 gives us the amt of pieces on each cake, on each side

4(s/3) gives us the amount of pieces total the sides, but we double count 4 pieces

So we minus those pieces off

since the area is same for each cube we can just use the number of squares
$\frac{16}{25} \times 100%$ for the first one

How did they get the amount of edge pieces though?

Like in the example, why did they convert the 15 in side into 16 edge pieces?
