Suppose the number of each note is x and y. What two equations can you write?
x + y = 12 , so like x = 12 - y , y = 12 - x
Right. And the second?
huh... i don't quite get it
Well, the total sum needs to be 1300, right?
x + y = 1300
No.
x + y = 12.
For the second equation you need to consider how much each amount of notes is worth, not just how many of them there are.
100x + 200x = 1300 or smth like that
Yeah, nice!
Oh, though, 200y, rather.
So, you have a system:
x + y = 12
100x + 200y = 1300
okie so i equate both of them
What do you mean?
ntg 😭
wut after that?
Well, solve the system. You did a correct step above: express x from one of the equations.
100 ( 12 - y ) + 200y = 1300
Right. So, now express y from here.
Probably best to start by dividing everything by 100.
did i do smth wrong? i got y = 1/3
Well, I don't know unless you show what you did.
1200 - 100y + 200y + 1300 , 1200 - 300y = 1300 , 300y = 1300- 1200 , y = 100/300 , y = 1/3
-100y + 200y = 100y, not 300y.
Yes. And x?
Nice, you're welcome!
