yeah
we want it in the form (3x+a)(x+b), where a and b are to be determined
yes
we know that ab=-30 and a+3b=13 from the equation given
so find 2 numbers that satisfy this.
dont that mean the only possible answers are factors of -30
so
6,5 2,15 1,30
and just add - infront of one of them
3, 10
ab=-30 and a+3b=13
5 and -6?
switch the signs.
wdym
cos 5 x -6 = -30
and 5 + 3(-6) = 5 - 18
ohhh
so 6 x -5 = -30
6 + 3(-5) = 6 + -15
yo i still dont get it ngl smh
yo i get it now i thikn
-5 x 6 = -30
-5 + 18 = 13
start by putting in a (x+a) (x+b) format
then find out what to add/multiply to have one of them as zero
im gonna use what the other guy said cos its the only tihng i've understood for the past 2 hours
thanks to you guys tho
good luck!
but yes, i would like to propose an alternate method here
is there an easier way
for some reason this just seems harder
nah its non calc
yes
what you can do here is take, for a quadratic ax^2+bx+c=0, the a term onto the c term, i.e. transform it into x^2+bx+ca=0.
so in this example, we would have y^2-11y-60=0
use a normal method, yes.
here, ill give an example
lets say we have 2x^2-3x+1=0
yeah
yh
so (x-2)(x-1)=0
now we have to "add" a 2 to make the leading coefficient satisfy such
you can do it in some fashion
because 2x^2-3x+1=(2x-1)(x-1)
ngl im not understanding this
if my first method works for you, go for it
its a little bit complicated with non-prime leading coefficients, but i have one more method.
let’s take our example 2x^2-3x+1=0
we can split the middle by calculating the numbers that multiply to 2 and add to -3
so we get that 2x^2-2x-x+1=0
then 2x(x-1)-(x-1)=0
we factor out the (x-1) and get that (2x-1)(x-1)=0
let that sink in for a bit @umbral talon
i think thats what i learned in school
fuck man this is what happens when u dont focuse in maths for the past month
this is the optimal method because it works for all types
man this just feels too hard to understand
a good 2-3 hours i've been trying to understand
im atually getting frustrated aswell
maths used to be one of my best topics aswell which makes me even more mad man
yo i kinda got it
Look at question 2 did I do it right?
👍
actually thank you so much
cos without u i dont think i was sleeping tonight lmao
this is correct as well
@umbral talon
