so then can we do wrt to g?

#

or smthing

#

thanks

pine sable
#

what is wrt

#

is that with respect to?

pine sable
#

i assume the dy/dx in the top left is the question asking you to find the derivative

rotund ice
pine sable
#

oh

#

x^2+y^2+g^2 = 12

#

for this

rotund ice
#

yes

pine sable
#

you want to find derivative wrt g?

rotund ice
#

yes

pine sable
#

okay

#

so first

#

differentiate each term

#

what is x^2 differentiated

#

2x right?

rotund ice
#

yup

pine sable
#

d(variable)/d(wrt)

#

so its

#

2x (dx/dg)

#

y^2 differentiated wrt g would be

#

dy/dg * 2y

#

g^2 differentiated wrt g would be

rotund ice
#

2g

pine sable
#

2g * dg/dg

#

and the dg/dg cacnels out

#

so you get 2g

rotund ice
#

alrighty

pine sable
#

and 12 is just a constant so 0

rotund ice
#

thank you very much

#

yes

#

yes

pine sable
#

no worries

#

hope you understand now

rotund ice
#

yes
