#cannot get my head around how they calculated the displacement

hi guys

im very confused pls help

i think i may be dumb

how is -5 the solution to e??? i calculated by finding the y coordinate that corresponded to x=3 which was 11, and subtracted it by 8 because that was where particle was at t=0. However, that gives me a displacement of 3 and not -5..
