That’s why the mean weight is multiplied for each apple sampled.
I have to admit that upon closer inspection I see what you mean. The variance should increase from that of apples if we are talking about bags of apples, and daania’s equation should give the variance he/she was looking for. The variance within a bag should be smaller the more we sample, but the variance across bags is another matter.
